Some fans have questioned Johnson’s style of play in recent games, describing it as negative, but he quashed the doubters, saying: “I think they’re wrong,” He explained: “We don’t set up to be negative, we set up in different shapes and formats this season trying to find the right blend. “There’s a natural instinct for people to say, and I’ve heard it on the radio, ‘why is he playing one upfront?’ but we set up a game to win. “We don’t set up to draw, we set up to win, and in our group at this moment in time, I believe that our best opportunity of winning the games is to play three in midfield. “I say that formations don’t matter,” he continued. “If you’re playing to the style and the philosophy, I call it 5-5-5 because we’re trying to create numerical advantages all over the pitch."
Well the numerical things isn't working when we attack, nor in picking up 2nd balls when we are defending.
OH DEAR....i bet being locked in a room with benji and leejay is utter gobbledigook I have bad news Leejay....you are only allowed 11 on the pitch so numerical advantages all over the pitch is impossible (barring sending offs, extreme injuries) what a clown.... you carry on with the NEGATIVE stuff Leejay....you may however find yourself 'performing' in fron of 2 / 3000 soon. hth but it wont
Spout what you like LeeJay but the fact is it ain't working! Worrying signs! More of the same appears to be the message from Lee Jay. I will need to keep taking the tablets!!!!!
He obviously means creating numerical advantages in all the different areas of the pitch when it matters. Doubling up etc. You used to be amusing but now you're just a dull as many others on here. hth
LJ can come out with as much coaching badge spin as he wants, it won't change my opinion on what I am watching which is a boring, negative, safety first tippy-tappy approach to games. I've been at every home games this season and this is what I am seeing. I didn't go to Blackpool but I've spoken to people who did and they all say it was this 'safety-first' approach that cost us a win.
In what sense is his approach not working? Are you saying we should have more points on the board by this point? If so, how many? Or are you just saying that you don't enjoy the way we play?
It's just Keith hill take two, and it's starting to feel yet again like deja vu. I can't see LeeJay lasting past Christmas. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Are you serious? We've a promising young squad just starting to gel together, beat last season's play-off finalists 4-1 supposedly "without any strikers" the week before last and following that, took a point away at a team that just came down from the league above. It's cool to hate and it's easy to criticise. Had we won last weekend at Blackpool, 1-0, having "sat back" in the second half but actually kept them out, I wonder how many would be whinging and moaning on here now.
Formations have nothing to do with it. I'm fine with us playing 1 up front if that's Johnson's preferred tactic. I wouldn't necessarily describe such a formation as negative, but if we play that way, the midfield have got to support the attack. In the majority of games under Johnson I haven't seen that happening. It's not been the case of us outnumbering them 5-4 as Johnson is claiming, but Winnall being outnumbered 4-1.
You're definitely right about that. If we'd won the games we didn't, there'd be far less criticism. But the fact that we didn't win those games is kinda the whole point.
