No because by hogging possession in area's where we can't hurt the other team it also means they can't create chances either.

This is how I see what is happening.
The managers long term view is that we have to coach the kids we have to play the modern game at the higher levels against better players.
In the short term we may be able to bombard the teams in this division and win promotion, but we would then struggle in the championship and changing tactics to suit that level of football whilst in that league will be too late. So short term pain / long term game.
Only time will tell if this is a success.
P.S. modern football is a business and the business model is VW's.

    Barca stats last night

They are the masters of tippy-tappy possession stuff but the stats in the graphic below count for nothing. 4-1 to Celta was the line that mattered.

And for what it matters, not sure I will be at Oakwell again this weekend. If I was local, it would be a no-brainer, but it's an entertainment business and after driving around all week I don't fancy another 80 mile round trip to be bored senseless. At £27 plus fuel there are so many more alternatives on a Saturday vying for my hard-earned. :frown:

Those possession stats are pretty even tbh. Only a 3% swing to level it up.

Am I understanding this correctly? You're downplaying Barcelona's style and philosophy - unquestionably the most successful football model of the last decade if not more on the back of one result? Feels like a bit of a selective use of evidence that.

    I didn't articulate particularly well.

I love Barca - always have. Love everything they stand for and love the way they have played particularly over the last ten yours or so since Rijkaard / Ronaldinho.

Their brand of tippy-tappy works. And it does so because they have spent millions on transfers and wages to secure the right personnel to be able to play it. The stats above are still slightly in Barca's favour but not nearly as much as in usual games. I suppose the point I was trying to make was that even the best can fall down occasionally.

The other points I was trying to get across is that I hate it when teams (ourselves included) attempt to emulate their style without an end product. That just leads to turgid, non-events such as most home performances this year. And secondly, the game above also demonstrates a quality I DO like, namely Celta had a right good go at them and reaped the rewards. Think us vs. Everton. I could watch those kinds of performance all year and not give a flying **** whether we went up or not.

That's pretty much me, unless you do it (driving round all week) it probably doesn't seem so bad , but when you look at what's on offer for dragging yourself back into the motor on a Saturday it really does!
