Worst bit of business we have done. Could never understand how people could criticise him - but that's opinions.
He was our best player by some distance. These type of threads from his new club's forum don't surprise me at all. Championship player all day. But yes, financial decision to let him go and possibly the player wanting to play at a higher level. May well have been his last chance as well at the age of 29 (his birthday today as well as it goes - according to wiki).
Not surprised by that in the slightest. He was, as I always maintained, our best player. However, as you have rightly pointed out, we're not missing him because his replacements in Richards are Mawson are first class. I didn't think there were central defenders out there, who we could afford, capable of playing to his standard. Turns out there were two and we signed them both. Well done to Johnson and the rest of the recruitment team for identifying and signing them.
Cranie for me is currently a better defender at the moment but Mawson fits into what we want. Mawson will be a Championship player eventually and you can tell that technically already.
Always thought he was a good defender & he used to get lots of praise on here until it was revealed he was our top earner & then he became unpopular with quite a few
Best position right back, had some outstanding games but mostly average IMHO... Very skilled on the ball, and a bery good full back. But as a central defender his positioning, communication and concentration were lacking. Never formed strong partnership at the back. We always looked very nervous at the back. Given the choice of three of the following: Crainie, Mawson, Roberts and Naytanga. I'd go with what we got, boys doining well. This year the nervousness has left the back four. Naytanga looks a different player, Mawson and Roberts solid pairing too.
