Thing is, Donny fans were comparing themselves to us in terms of crowds/ fanbase etc. a few years ago, when they were at their highest position, and we were plodding along. Now the novelty has worn off, we still have a reasonable fan base, and the wannabes have realised that Donny are going nowhere. As a small town club, I think our support stacks up pretty well. No medals for living in a city with a humungous population to call on.
Bradford Sheffield and Doncaster all have bigger populations than barnsley. I'll go that route instead of the 'City' one then
Apparently tin oxidises. Which isn't rust. Better get that one in before a smartarse metallurgist starts posting.
Arsenal of the north, if you ask me. In the sense that they both wear red kits and have the letters A, R, S, E and N in their names.
For ten years ive heard nothing but how they are a bigger club than us. For ten years I've been telling them they will end up back where they belong, League 2/Conference playing infront of 2,000. Looks likely. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I try not to get into all the 'bigger club' nonsense, and I know that we're hardly Manchester United, but anybody who claims Doncaster to be a bigger club than Barnsley is just objectively wrong. It's absolutely ludicrous.
In fairness, the food storage items we refer to as 'tins' are steel with a thin tin coat and they do rust. (I'm not a metallurgist btw).
We've a bigger fanbase, generally competed at a higher level over the years, won some actual silverware (FA Cup as opposed to paint pot trophy), bigger and better stadium, Cat 2 academy, better training facilities . . . they don't actually think they're a bigger club do they?
Oh believe me they do. It all stems from the fact half of them are/were casual man utd/liverpool fans who jumped on the bandwagon when they started rising, hence they arnt very football intelligent. The best example of this was when they all genuinely believed they were getting Tevez on loan when he fell out with the manager at City. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Or the time they still adamantly stress they brought 6,000 to us when they beat us 3-1 about ten years back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What does it matter who's bigger than who , at the risk of all sounding a bit Sheffieldish this thread.
Posted the pics once on their forum, end section of the away end completely empty so that knocked nearly a 1,000 off the capacity (once our seating map was available online) and the first 4/5 rows empty, knocking it down to around 4,000-4,500 which was the figure given out at the stadium. Finally put that myth to bed.
And how well do you think our crowds will hold up compared to now in say a years time on a tuesday v a southern club? Given that half the kids under 21 are banned (and still included in attending st holders) people getting fed up over the football played, stagnation of the club etc? The attendance read out at oakwell odd game aside is >90% home fans.
