Reading all the threads on here, ranting about is losing away at Donny and LJ with his negative tactics. My question is why all the mayhem and bad feeling when at the end of the day we are a mid to top end league 1 club we will win some lose some and draw some.LJ may get better he may not, some games will be dull some not.In the thirty + years I've been watching it's just how it is being a Barnsley fan we are not a big city with big investment and we will continue to have good times and bad. I know that doesn't help. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
You're spot on. As I've said on other threads I don't think we played badly at all today, but results continue to be inconsistent. Performances though are getting more consistent, certainly in the games I've been to. Hopefully we'll continue to get more consistent and some good times aren't too far away!
Expectations. I think a lot of people believe we're better than we actually are, so get very disappointed when we lose/don't play well. We've actually got a decent set of players and if we kept them together we might be a force to be reckoned with in this division in a couple of years, but right now the majority are very young, they're inexperienced, they're inconsistent and they're a long way short of a table-topping side. Like you said, we're going to win some, we're going to lose some and we're going to draw some and unless we accept that, there's going to be a lot of gnashing of teeth this season. We decided to go with youth this summer and while that may be the best long term strategy, it also put a halt to any realistic chances we had of promotion. So far, we've actually done better than I thought we would.
You may well be right Jay, but the rhetoric coming out of our club from management, directors, owner etc, is that we're going for it and we're good enough, so it's no surprise that many fans will buy into that.
We are a mid table division 3 team and probably blew any chances of success by 'reiminaging' the team yet again in the summer. On one hand I'm OK with that we are what we are on the other hand we have one of the biggest budgets in a very poor league so it's frustrating to write another season off. Folks would perhaps be happier to do so if we tried to play attacking football rather than safety first possession football
I like the title missing the point , that's exactly what we did through poor tactics,,' missed the point'. But we are still in touch no panic yet....
I agree with that it is frustrating I've been watching us 20 years and most of that has been in a higher league than this. We do have one of the biggest budgets but unfortunately that doesn't guarantee success look at Bradford and Sheffield United who have bigger budgets that us there fans will be spitting feathers aswell tonight am sure.
I didn't think they were poor tactics at all. LJ comes in for negative tactics on here but, today I thought he made positive substitutions to try and win the game. It just didn't come off today
Dunno if I agree. Seems to me that there are far more dull, scrappy games lacking in quality than anything else over the last few years. Have been watching for 40 years and can remember much better levels of entertainment even from teams that were mid table...
I think that is down to the formation myself I used to love seeing disco,Chris shuker, jcr get balls on the wing and run at a defence and scare the **** out of there rb/lb and have the ponty on its feet in a 4-4-2 setup. We don't have them kinds of players these days and we don't play that style we play modern day possession football
The excuse in the championship was lack of budget to compete in that division which I personally got tired of listening to yet now we have a healthy budget for the division we are in maybe we should expect to be very competitive. The young inexperienced inconsistent thing doesn't work with me because it is the managers/ clubs choice to go with the kids, if things can be simply remedied by adding experience then why don't we do it .
Yeah maybe wrong or poor tactics is the wrong approach to his substitutions but it didn't work so maybe the way he made the attempt to win the game was tactically wrong to make three changes to a team that was controlling the game was maybe a bit drastic, like I've said on other threads, marley up front, Wabara right wing, Bree full back, Pearson off. The core of the team is then still unchanged and well balanced. Jmo
No sober as a judge, but if you are wanting an attacking presence for the last 10 mins Hourihane and Scowen would b my choice, Pearson more defensively minded. Jmo but of course one of our best on his day.
Unfortunately or fortunately depending how you look at it.....the comments, rhetoric that comes out of the club only fool those who hang on to every word praying that for once the club are for once above board.and are going for promotion.. call me a old cynic if you wish but if i had a pound for every time some one from the club said we were going to do some thing positive about moving forward and actually carried it out to the letter then i and many others would be a rich man....ive seen too many false dawns over these last 50 years to get carried away, ive stopped believing anything until it actually materialises down at the well....the amount of times ive heard the reason for changing manager and the plans for going forward only for it to change so easiy ....due to unforseen problems that have never get fully explained correctly, no matter who was in charge....so why should this appointment be any different . Yes youd like to think that for once we are going places I for one will believe it when it happens....... many will say i bet its a barrel of laughs in the shed house hold if thats his attitude..... fortunately it is were BFC is concerned.... you pays your money you ride the rollercoaster when you follow the reds thats Barnsley FC but take it with a pinch of salt what gets spouted otherwise you get let down and dissapointed too often lol no doubt i will be saying the same thing in the next 20/30 years time.unless things actually change ....( hopefully i will still be around ) lol
That's a valid point. I do think the club should manage expectations better. However, they also have to sell match tickets and it appears that, rightly or wrongly, they believe talking up our chances is the best way of doing that.
The security of the stones money which I believe the the club are reliant on and thought they were getting in the summer is what would have given us a big budget for this league but until it does come, the wages we pay, the contract extensions, the buying of experience and other things to give our team a push on and give the board strength won't happen. It's why smith was signed on loan with a view to a permanent in January, it's why we have loan players here to fill up squad places and not improve the team, it's the only way we will be able to keep winnal, hourihane and scowen when they are getting in to their final year of their contact . The Stones money will significantly improve bfc ability to move forward on and off the pitch. Sent from my Hudl HT7S3 using Tapatalk
Well I started when we were in the old 4th division and it has always been the same since then. Back in the day there were always the ones saying we didn't want to go up, then along came Alan Clarke and the rollercoaster really got going!. Eventually we got to the Championship and we got the same again this is it for us etc, then along came the Premiership albeit only very briefly. My point being is that you never know and if you take away hope you have nothing, particularly in todays 'instant' society many don't have the patience to wait two or three seasons. The real thing that I do know is that in our best years even if we did fall sometimes we were (in the most) very well entertained by sides with a good blend of experience and not so much experience , who played attractive attacking football and that also knew how to defend. Footballs not rocket science .
I don't agree with this view. Outside of Sheff Utd, Wigan, Bradford & possibly Coventry depending on their finances these days there's no one in this division who should have a budget as much as ours & we've spent all summer signing players that Johnson tells us were chased by championship clubs so for me we've got to be up there. No offence but if I was in the position where I just accepted been mid-table when Burton, Walsall, Bury & Gillingham were the top 4 then I'd stop going
