Britain has a new WORLD CHAMPION...Last night in Poland, Tai Woffinden became World Speedway Champion for the 2nd time..He's only the 3rd Brit to win it more than once since the sport started in 1929...Born in Scunny, raised in Australia, made his professional debut at 16 down the road at Owlerton, Sheffield....Well done Tai!
Speaking of speedway, does anyone know what happened to that poor guy (a close friend or a relative of someone from this BBS) who was seriously injured in a racing accident maybe a year ago? I'm not 100% sure that it was speedway, but perhaps someone knows what I'm talking about...
It was Ricky Ashworth, badly injured at Scunny..I started the post..He's out of his coma and home but will need care for the rest of his life...There was a benefit meeting at Sheffield and collections/fundraising events at Tracks up and down the country so His family could build a disabled freindly extension to their home in Salford...He's doing very well considering, not lost his sense of humour and remains positive about his life, thanks for asking.
Thanks for the quick reply, I didn't realise that it was you who started the thread! I'm glad to hear that Ricky's doing better now, I wish him all the best in the long recovery process.
Brilliant season from Tai in the GP series, just wish he'd race in Britain on a regular basis, money talks I expect.
Its not just money its the racing schedule, its too hectic, lots of top riders miss the UK these days...If there was one set race night as there is in Sweden and Poland more would ride but British Speedway bosses are so far behind the times its unbelievable.
