Very young side, very young manager and yet we are just a few points off play-offs with a game in hand. I thought we'd be much further down the table which shows what I know. I'm struggling to take to LJ though. The football is boring and he seems to lack a plan B. Don't think I can ever recall a manager making such disastrous substitutions either. Prepared to give him time though and you won't hear me calling for his head - especially in October. Not convinced he's making all the decisions re transfers either. Quite ironic that we suddenly have a 'Head Coach'. Anyway, really hope he does well and we can put together a good run. This is the worst League One has been in a few seasons and the best opportunity we'll get for some time to get out of it.
common sense and good reason are simply NOT allowed on here you should know better now go and stand on the 'naughty step'
The thing with this "plan B" argument is that, if Harris had buried his chance on Saturday just before they scored, then Lee's substitutions look the business. His plan B against Swindon worked well after what was a drab opening half hour. The problem for me is that he seems very stubborn; he seems to like this formation of 1 up top even though it seems very frustrating. I had a look at the weekend, and the only side in the top flight that won on Saturday with more than 1 striker, was Leicester. But in league 1, only Bury won with a lone striker. I think it works well in a side which has goals in midfield, and when both sides are playing fast attacking football. In league 1 when the pitches aren't the best, the football isn't great, and you have a side which doesn't have many goals in its midfield (Hourihane being the exception) it's difficult to see how it can work long term. If Harris, Watkins Hourihane and Scowen were all chipping in with 8+ goals a season, then it works. I reckon between them, they won't score 20 goals. Which leaves a lot of emphasis on the striker to perform, but how is Sam supposed to hold the ball up, do all the running, win countless headers and score 20 goals? I've just watched the highlights from the weekend, if we were to play Watkins alongside Winnall, I reckon we'd see more goals from Winnall, Harris and Hourihane. Maybe a 4-1-3-2 formation, I certainly think we have the players, just not the game plan. ..................Townsend......................... Bree...Mawson...Nyatanga...Smith ......................Pearson......................... Wabara........Scowen...............Harris ...........Watkins.........Winnall.............. It means choosing between Scowen and Hourihane unless you play one of them on the wing (which seems a waste). But we have a good squad, with the likes of Smith, Crowley, Roberts and Davies all waiting in the wings. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
