So if Ched Evans appeal is successful would you have him at Oakwell?

Are you serious? Obviously only people who were there know whether he's guilty or not but if he isnt, your saying he shouldnt be trying to clear his own name? And if he is innocent why shouldnt he try and show the girl up who's ruined his life?

Im not saying either way whether I think he's innocent but that post is absolutely ****ing ridiculous.

During a taxi journey home, after being at a night club, Ched Evans received a text from his friend informing him that his friend had picked up a 'bird'. Mr Evans told the taxi driver he no longer wanted to be taken home and instructed the taxi driver to take him to the hotel where his friend was staying. At the hotel Mr Evans lied to the hotel receptionist in order to gain access to his friend's room. He didn't knock on the door of his friend's room or announce his arrival, he let himself in using a key card he had obtained from the receptionist. Mr Evan's friend was having sex with a woman on the bed. Mr Evans then had sex with the woman that his friend had brought back to that hotel room. The 'bird' referred to in the text. While Mr Evans was having sex with the woman, his friend left the room and told the hotel receptionist that they should keep an eye on the woman. When Mr Evans had finished having sex with the woman, he left the room and left the hotel via the back exit.

None of the above is disputed by Mr Evans, although if you read his campaign web-site you'll not get such a back to basics account and key facts are glossed over or misrepresented.

I don't need a verdict from a court of law to help me decide if what Ched Evans did was wrong, if it constitutes bad behaviour. It was wrong, it is bad behaviour. It is irrelevant to me whether or not the woman consented and if she was in a fit state to do so. It is, of course, very relevant to Mr Evans. It's the difference between him being a convicted sex offender and an innocent man. Even if Mr Evans is found not guilty on appeal, he will not be innocent in my eyes. The fine line between whether or not his actions fall within the laws of this land is not the point in my opinion. My morality is not shaped by the laws of our country. I know what is right and what is wrong without those laws. I don't change my mind about what I believe is right and wrong depending on the country I am in, which may have different laws, and I don't change my mind about what is right or wrong depending on the verdict of a court of law in this country. Ched Evans did what has been alleged. Whether or not that falls within our laws does not matter to me.

If we sign Ched Evans we are basically saying that what he did was OK. We may well have had players on our books in the past who have done similar or worse, but that is not the point. What Ched Evans did is in the public domain, the people who run our club know what he did, and to sign him is to accept that behaviour.

That's not to say I don't believe in giving people a second chance. I do and I believe in rehabilitation. But even if we ignore the fact that Mr Evans has shown no signs of regret and admitted to no wrong doing what-so-ever, I do not believe it is appropriate for someone who has done what he did to hold a position that is a role model for children. Not at my club anyway. You may argue that a footballer should not be a role model and you'd probably be right, but they are and we can't decide for our children who they idolise. We'd might like to, but we can't, they choose for themselves.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again now. Footballers should aspire to be role models for kids through their play on the pitch and their words and actions off it. They have an opportunity that millions of men around the country would love to have and they should take that chance to demonstrate how we should behave in our society. This could be publicly helping out with charity, coaching kids or doing things behind the scenes to make the world a better place, but it seems too many of them are going for wild excesses and yobbish behaviour on and off the field.

all this about role models for kids etc, my kids 11 and the stuff that he comes out with that gets talked about in the play ground and how his friends older brother as shown him this rude film etc, video games they play like grand theft auto, involve sex with prostitutes etc, teabagging people in C O D , the worlds not an innocent place anymore, very sad really but its a binge drinking laddish society were lads who get to nail as many birds as possible are legends,

all the above I find very sad ,but its just how the world is, don't think for one minute, any young lad watching Barnsley thinks about anything else but how his hero plays on the pitch, they surely wont be impressed by him even though he is an average player, he does lots of good deeds in his every day life

after all that I would not want mr evans at Barnsley because I think he can never be the player he was, because no doubt he will be paranoid and thinking about what as happened for the rest of his days and would I believe be a waste of money

Best post on this thread Barnsley Loyal!

And I'm fed up with the posters on this thread who seem to think they have a right to take the high moral ground on this subject.

Let the law take its course.

Does anyone really think Ched Evans cares whether BFC supporters want him at Barnsley.

Why will people be eating humble pie? People will not have been wrong to treat him as a rapist when he was a convicted rapist.

Ignoring the controversy he's been caught up in, he'd not get a contract anywhere in the football league. Not played in 3 years, will be nowhere near the fitness level needed. Lost far too much time.

He will have done nothing wrong

    Anyway bored of this subject

The appeal isn't to decide whether he did it or not. Both sides agree with what happened. It's whether or not what he did was against the law. If he's found not guilty, he still did all the stuff that has been reported.

It comes down to consent. Evans has testified he was given consent and as the lass in question can't remember anything, the only testimony at hand is that of Evans and his mate, although neither can remember who asked if Evans could have sex with her, so it's not great evidence. The jury then had to decide if they believed the two lads and, if they did, if the girl was in a fit state to give consent and if Evans believed her to be in a fit state to give it. They thought not and he was found guilty.

If he is now given a not guilty verdict, it won't change what he did. He received a text that his mate had pulled, instructed the taxi driver to take him to the hotel where his mate and the lass were, lied to the hotel receptionist to get a key card for the room, entered the room unannounced and uninvited, saw his mate having sex with a lass and had sex with her himself having never met her before. He left in the middle of the night by the back exit. There is video evidence that she was literally falling down drunk. Evans' mate told the hotel receptionist to keep an eye on here.

Whatever the verdict of the appeal, I think he's done something wrong.

Conversely, if a disabled person refuses to pay the bedroom tax on their two bedroom property because there are no one bedroom properties available and is subsequently convicted, I will not think they have done anything wrong despite the guilty verdict. I don't believe the law and what's right and wrong have anything to do with one another.
