Probability is not the same as luck. Probability is determined by cause and effect. By forces being exerted on a system. A change in a force applied will lead to a different result which can be predicted if the forces are known or measured. Every system has many (possibly infinite) outcomes. The probability only exists until a force is applied to that system. The outcome, based on the force applied, can always be predicted using the laws of nature (physics). The outcome has zero probability. Only the forces applied have any probability, but once they have been determined by a specific action (i.e. SSW kicking the ball in a particular way, the air pressure, the skill of a keeper, a defender being in a position to block) then the probability becomes nil and the ball can only travel in a particular way. What you're referring to is how the skill of a player can affect the outcome. Hence why better players, with better technique, tend to score from a lower ratio of chances. Their technique is better. They aren't inherently more "lucky". Luck does not exist in any sense other than being a word we use to describe a specific outcome that we may have originally perceived as more or less favorable then expected. Sportsmen like to blame luck more so than many other aspects of society purely because it's easier than admitting one isn't good enough. In business things are rarely written off as luck.
I didn't think I was full of doom until I read this thread, but now I've lost the will to live and want to jump off something high.
Ross Barkley's England goal. What a brilliant specific outcome that we may have originally perceived as less favorable than expected!!
If a system has infinate out comes and a force is applied to that system then any outcome is not just probable, but a certainty. Therefore, Super Sam MUST score. Possibly.....
It is down to luck....bad luck we've got Leejay.... and it is luck cos Benj and co appear to be picking names out of a hat every time they set another on. Hth
If a butterfly flaps its wings in Salford a tree falls in the Amazon and Sam scores a hatrick. Mandlebrot was half right.
Make your own luck in football Some set plays when aiming to score and fluky goal to raise confidence levels Same as Fergie said go out and enjoy yourself A Team doing well are enjoying there game every thing goes in the net Bit of fire on the belly determination too
I agree. Build it and they will come. Red tide rising. We dominated the game totally but only ourselves to blame for not sticking away the chances.
I will treat that with the scorn it deserves Again you make matters personal against people you have refused to meet, you are not funny, you do not help and your claim to be a Barnsley fan is falacious. You have proved that. Cot me in half. it says Barnsley all the way through, not Barnsley with shades of (pink) Liverpool. Be Not. Dth?
So am I right in thinking it was with probability rather than luck that you made this post ? http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/images/icons/icon11.png
