Not swapping and changing manager every week. Its something that the club and fans keep wanting to triumph. How does that work when the current manager has lost five league games already. Two of them against struggling teams. At what point do you have to make the decison whether to stick or twist? when we lose another three or four games in tje next month? Playing style doesnt improve? Crowd frustration builds up and people stop attending?
Andy Ritchie had the exact same record after 11 games in 2005/06. Played 11 Won 4 Drawn 2 Lost 5. Including a 2-0 reverse at home to a struggling Donny and a 3-0 drubbing at Bristol City who were also in the bottom 3 at the time. He was getting stick on here for his tactics, personell in wrong positions etc. We then went on a 10 game unbeaten run in the league. Things came together. Patience.
I, unlike most others by the looks, can see that we have a good team, capable of turning out better results than we are doing. For the first time in god knows how long, I can look at the 18 players in the match day squad and think that there's not one who I wouldn't have in my side. What's letting us down is the tactics. Sooner or later that has to change in order to get us consistently winning games, because this side is definitely capable of doing it. They're not big names, they're not particularly experienced (Nyatanga being the only exception), but they're good players. It needs to change now though because by Christmas, I reckon some of them may struggle fitness wise with them not being seasoned pro's. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
I understand what you (and many others) are getting at in that we shouldn't blindly follow a certain manager just because we are scared to get rid of yet another one, BUT how can we ever expect progression as a club when we appoint a manager then talk about getting rid of him the first time things don't go so well? If we had won the last 2 games (like we deserved to) we would be in the top 6 and this thread would be laughable, that's how close we are to getting things right. We knew what we signed up for when the club went down the route of signing young hungry players and that there would be plenty of ups and downs along the way. The last 2 weeks have been a down. It's just disappointing that a portion of our fan bases reaction to a down is "sack the manager!" Why don't we all just sit tight and ride it through to the end of next season. By then we SHOULD have the team and squad that LJ wants, he will have had time to implement his ideas and the players will have had time to understand them. At that point if the club has not made progress then we can all sit back and say "well that hasn't worked". Jumping ship half way through is just barmy. We will be starting all over again with a new manager who is always 2 losses away from the sack.
So a manager makes a mistake/has a fault and we should get rid of him? LJ has done a lot of very good things. Talks about the game very well, has the players onside, has convinced several top young players to choose Barnsley over rivals in higher leagues, quite clearly cares and wants to be successful, is open to the opinions of our fans, seems to be improving our young players and many others. Yes he has his faults and things are not quite there yet, but he is the first to admit this. He is a young manager himself and he is still learning as well as the players. He is the manager version of Hourihane for me. Fantastic potential with some really positive contributions, but has his faults. Seems the same portion of fans that write Hourihane off for those couple of faults and ignore all the positives are the same bunch that want LJ out...
If you go back to when Alex Ferguson joined Man U, i bet the fans forum was worse than this. Lets just hold on for the coming good times. COYR
Next manager, whenever that comes abart, needs to prove himself with the players that are already here and give him **** all money till he`s proved hissen. That`ll save a bob or two, probably gerrus a desperate manager like but what the ****.
Ferguson had already had a proven track record with Aberdeen and while I get what you are saying there are no signs yet, either past or present, that LJ can make progress.
We didn't deserve to win either. You dont deserve to win a game just because you dominate possession.
I look at it like this...........whoever has brought these players together has done a FANTASTIC job. When you look at the capability of the players then we must have the best, or one of the best, squads in this division - and all young guys. So if we keep hold of them they are going to improve. But in the mean time they are losing to bottom of the table. And I think this is down to lack of communication on the field - which LJ has committed more time to so obviously he has identified the problem. So would an older, more experienced, more shouty type of player be the answer? I think it would - but that player would probably come with high wages.
Thats half the problem though its quite obvious weve got a decent team on paper. The bloke in charge cant utilise them. 14th in the table having dropped points to seven teams below us. Come five pm saturday we could be two points away from the bottom three. This runs not just synonymous with tis season but his tenure as a whole.
You are right that you don't deserve to win a game just because you dominate possession, but we also had a lot more shots, chances, corners and territory. Basically everything, but on the scoreboard. We deserved to win both games as we were the better team and in both games the only team that went for the 3 points instead of settling for 1. I'm not making excuses to back up my argument. It is just my honest assessment of the last 2 games and i'm pretty sure if you watch the games back from a neutral point of view you would find it hard to disagree.
All well and good saying end of next season but we will do well to hold this squad together beyond this season...
I think moving players on at a large profit is all part of the plan. Doesn't really matter who is still here by the end of next season, as long as the squad we are left with is competing for the top two of this league or is in the Championship then the plan has worked. We have young players on 3 year deals with no financial pressure to sell. If players leave it will be because it was right for the club.
So you can honestly say that if we had scored a couple of our many chances on Saturday and won comfortably you would be feeling the same? I would rather watch a team build from the back and keep hold of the ball for long spells rather than watch Kennedy kick it at O'Grady's head so we can feed off the scraps.
come end of next season some of the players will be out of contract. Even end of this season CH will only have a year left
