We're a one man team at the moment, and that one man is now out for a month. Let's see if anyone has the bottle to step up and replace him.
One man team courtesty of Hourihane? mmmm..... Can he put himself about like Scowen and Pearson? Can he run past a man like Crowley Scowen or even Pearson? Can he sprint down the wing like no other at the club, or at all? Or be a midfield power house thundering from box to box? Can he use both feet? Some say he cannot defend...... but that seems unfair to me. He is not a defender. I could go on but..... No. His talents lie in a talented left foot that benefits from room to operate. And his worth to the team is multiplied by the kind of worthy effort he showed against Everton. Although we do not get it every game, and for much of the second half of last season we got very little at all. But asserting that we are a one man team cos we have a bloke whose dead ball delivery is often good is simply warped. There's a game that goes on while the ball is in motion. And he is no better than the others then, all of whom have their individual talent on display.
Agree with the concept of your post that one man cannot make a team .but we will be lost as his goals and assists seem to be the majority of our points tally
The fact that we rely on him for his set pieces says a lot about our team and management at the moment. It's simply not good enough. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I cannot deny that the whole point of football is to put the ball in the net, which Hourihane better facilitates than anyone else.
I'm not being funny, but how hard is it for professional footballers, who train every day, to come up with some set pieces, without Conor Hourihane? Don't get me wrong, I'd rather him be there to take them, but there is something massively wrong if we can't find an answer within 11 players on the pitch. And, yes I know he contributes in other ways, but I can't stand this "we only have one player for set pieces" boll'x.
His dead ball delivery (before today, ironically) was the only thing bringing us goals before his injury. Crewe and Donny, two very poor teams, 2 goals in 180 minutes via his dead balls. Bradford away, better team performance but still ultimately won courtesy of 2 goals from his set pieces. Individual talent is all well and good but it's not been on show from anyone else recently.
which makes it even worse. Only Watkins features anywhere near CH in assist terms who also limped off injured yesterday.
