Can you remember the first Barnsley game you went to and what was the starting 11. Mine was Wood Parker Winstanley Howard Brookes Earnshaw Bettney Hewitt Hamstead Evans Thomas.
Huddersfield at Oakwell 1978 Can't remember the team exactly without looking but remember Clarkey heading the winner. Also remember a few shenanigans between both sets of fans !
This was my first game:- http://www.barnsley-mad.co.uk/results_service/1968_1969/10/aug/index.shtml My memory isn't what is was, but I think our goalscorers were Evans & Bradbury and this was our line up:- 1 Roy Ironside 2 Barry Murphy 3 David Booth 4 John Bettany 5 Eric Winstanley 6 Pat Howard 7 Bob Earnshaw 8 Johnny Evans 9 Jimmy Robson 10 Allen Bradbury 11 George Hamstead Substitute:- 12 Dick Hewitt.
I guess it was this:- http://www.barnsley-mad.co.uk/results_service/1978_1979/16/sep/index.shtml And the team was possibly this:- 1 Peter Springett 2 John Collins 3 Phil Chambers 4 Graham Pugh 5 John Saunders 6 Mick McCarthy 7 Alan Little 8 Allan Clarke 9 Glyn Riley 10 Alistair Millar 11 John Peachey Substitute:- 12 Brian Joicey
Barnsley vs Arsenal 24/10/95. I would have been 8 years old. We lost 0-3 David Watson Nicky Eaden Charlie Bishop Adie Moses Steve Davis > Andy Rammell Darren Sheridan Martin Bullock Neil Redfearn Owen Archdeacon Andy Liddell Andy Payton I don't remember much of it, had to drag that from google. All i do remember is that Arsenal wore Blue and Black.
mine was v Mansfield in 1980 I think, my next door neighbour took me as my dad was only interested in rugby league, it was cold so my mum gave me a scarf to wear , put it in my pocket ,got to ground thought maybe best to not put it on when Mansfield ran out in yellow and blue, yes you guessed it, it was yellow, bless her she didn't have much idea, like the time she sent me to Barnsley golf course with my clubs in my grans tartan shopping trolley, I got chucked off after hole 3
07/02/1998 I was 9. We drew 2-2 with Everton and I believe Fjortoft and Barnard scored for us. I was hooked instantly. As I grew up in Cumbria I couldn't really get to any games but I had been a fan since i was about 5 when I really started to understand the rules and support my hometown team as it was drummed into me by my Dad. My late Grandad who lived in Barnsley got tickets off his mate for me and him and even got the announcer to welcome me over the tannoy at Half-Time. Fantastic day.
Think it was Brighton at home, 88-89 season. Seem to remember needing a stub for Everton match. Was all downhill from there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mine was Bradford at Oakwell, November 12th 1988. It was 0-0. I was one of 8,838 folk there. I was 6. I remember jack **** of it. We were 8th in Division Two at the time, after 15 games. We did win a lot though in my first few home games, including the 4-0 hammering of Chelsea int cup.
Exact same match for me but I was 10. Our school were given tickets so the teachers took us along. The full match replay is on Barnsley Player in the archive section.
its a long tie ago, i was about 7 or 8. my grandad took me and eric winstanley was playing 1969 - 70 ish
Saturday 14th December 1985. Beat Charlton 2-1 at home, I was six, I liked it so much I got a half season ticket for Christmas. Which I kept for about 27 years - until the deadly Keith Hill and Paddy Cryne combo. dunno the team but it would have been something like: Baker Joyce Cross Futcher May Thomas Gray Lowndes Agnew Hirst Wylde
West Brom. 1946 1 Binns 2 Cunningham 3 Pallister 4 Logan 5 Wilson 6 Glover 7 Smith 8 Cooling 9 Robledo 10 Baxter 11 Kelly Won 3-1
24th October 1998 - Barnsley 2-1 Portsmouth. Darren Barnard and Ashley Ward got the goals and I think Barnard scored straight from a corner. I remember a sparse away following and they had a drum that was incessant. 15,152 there that day, how times have changed! Would love to see Oakwell full again regularly.
Went with my mate and his dad FA cup Barnsley v Southport, November 1966 We won 3-1 , which set my expectations supporting the reds at an over optimistic high!
Bradford at home in FA Cup Nov 73. Not sure of exact team but would've been something like:- Stewart, Yates, Chambers, Doyle, Petit, Greenwood, Butler, Lea, Manning, Millar, Brown. Thinking about it that might be spot on. Sad owd got.... ;-)
Went to the same Southport match with my mates. We were all about 14 yrs old. We felt sorry for the few Southport fans on the kop end so we decided to join them and shout for their team. It was all good fun and banter. There was no trouble or fighting. Everyone was friendly. How times have changed.
Colchester at home 2003-4. Dean Gorre penalty. Reyt laiker. I think starting eleven was Sasa Ilic, Brian O'callaghan, Tony Gallimore, Peter Handyside, Neil Austin Kevin Betsy, Chris Lumsdon, Dean Gorre, Rory Fallon, Isaiah Rankin and Mark Stallard. Manager was Thordarson and King Ronnie was the coach, who were doing well with the team, until Ridsdale came in and gave Hart the job and made it a borefest.
That was my first game as well. My mum's fellow GP gave me and my dad tickets for the exec lounge but my dad didn't realise (or tell me until 15 years later lol) and we just sat with the rest of the east stand massive. Remember bursting into tears at Portsmouth apparently making it 2-2, only for a steward to educate me about the offside rule of which I had no idea at the time. Can't remember the next one I went to even though I only went once or twice a season until 2007/2008.
