18th February 1961. FA Cup 5th round. Beat Luton Town 1-0. Attendance 32923. Little Jackie Lunn scored at the Kop end.

Williams; Swift, Brookes; Wood, Sharp, Houghton; Smillie, Bartlett, Tindill, Oliver, Lunn.

I know I'd been a few times before this but we used to go to Reserves as well as first team and this is the first match I can actually remember.

I don't remember the year. I know I squeezed through the turn style on the fiddle same time as me dad.

We played Blackpool and lost 2-1. Roger Wylde scored for us I think. Dave Bamber definitely scored theirs.

7 - 0 win beating QPR in 1950. Only remember Tommy Taylor scoring a hat-trick, not many of the rest of the team.

    Home V Hull Around 1980

dad was from the hull area but we lived in Bolton now as he worked at goldthorpe and Highgate pits, Barnsley won 5 - 1 I think and that was that. Nothing better than going to football, early 80's. We always had jacket potatoes for tea on a Saturday afterwards that had been in the oven for a week it seemed!

    love them days.

Southend United at home 76/77 Think Alan Little played for them and signed for Barnsley soon after.

    Mine was either

    http://www.11v11.com/matches/barnsley-v-halifax-town-04-september-1973-29526/

    or

    http://www.11v11.com/matches/barnsley-v-halifax-town-20-august-1974-29641/

I can't remember which one. I know that I missed the goal as it was just before half time and I'd gone for a bovril or summert.

I wonder if Kev JLWBlils might be able to shed some light on this please ?

Oh and my first ever live game was and I hate to admit this, Dirty Leeds v West Ham Utd Dec 1972 when I was 13. I think Mick Jones scored but the most vivid memories were of West Ham hitting the bar and the level of fighting going on on the terraces. It was none stop.

Halifax were our bogey team in those days, Dave. We played them on a number of occasions at the start of the 1970's in the League Cup, once in the FA Cup. We lost them all, despite being the best team on every occasion.

Dave, strange that because I think my first ever game was 1972 at Elland Road either West Ham or Norwich. Was the West Ham game a night match?

My first game was against Workinton Town, Tuesday night and the Reds had lost I believe the first 4 games of the season. 0 0 draw and throwing it down. Just over 2000 there

Age 7, 10th October 1981 away at Blackburn. Lost 2-1, our goal was a Banks penalty. I've got the team list somewhere, but ive got a feeling Glavin didnt play, nor did Aylott.

Horn, Joyce, Evans, McCarthy, Chambers, Banks, Cooper/Glavin, McHale, Parker, Riley, ?Barrowclough.

1978/79 promotion game against Grimsby. Dad came home from work and asked if i wanted to go and see barnsley get promoted. I was hanging on the railings between what is now west lower and the ponty. It was exhilerating. I was hooked. We missed the winning goal though as we were half way up the hill for the last bus home.

hard to believe now that there were about 26k there. It was the only game i have seen Barnsley play in the 4th tier so i can honestly say that the average crowd for games i have seen Barnsley play in the 4th tier is 26k !

I think those people that can name the team from their first game must be taking the piss though because i couldnt tell you the team last week never mind 35 years ago. Think it was Derek Bell that scored the winner i missed though. I am sure someone will correct me if i am wrong.
