Even if he can't run around as much we won't be losing anything by playing him instead of one of the other midfielders currently available. And we would have his drive and leadership, as well as an on-field reminder of what he's expecting the others to do. Would be a good short-term fix in my view.

As he retired through injury he will have had a payout which if he played again he would have to repay
Didn't he retire early for medical reasons so he may still feel he has the ability to play at this level but he hasn't got the fitness or the physical requirements.
