I hate him too. But there's a very good reason for that. He's a lovely person.

He had a decent first season at a higher level so there is a player in him. If he impresses on trial then why not have him back? He's an experienced player which might just help us.

Colace and Doyle were absolutely shocking in our midfield. Colace brought nothing to the party. He would run around looking busy yet never tackled anyone and never played a ball forward. He made Perkins look quality. As Jay mentioned before, he somehow managed to score several goals in one season by arriving late in the box. Christ knows how he managed it.

As for his mate Doyle, he was absolutely bab too. Looked a L2 (at best) right back playing in central defensive midfield. So that was 2 defensive midfield players, which is a bit like we have now but with nowhere near the quality of Scowen and Pearson. On a side note, as much as I like Pearson and Scowen, it's not working with them playing and protecting a back 4-5.

Mark Robins' awful defensive tactics ultimately saw him leave and this midfield was a major part of the problem. It's a shame that all these years on we're still making the same mistakes.

I loved Hugo, I'll be more excited than when we signed Mido if he comes back.

I'd love to be "making the same mistakes" in the Championship right about now.

Really?! I thought it was to do with budgetary constraints!

I'd much rather have those awful defensive tactics that saw us comfortably mid-table in the championship than the current bomb-alley confusion zone tactics that have us in the bottom 4 of the ale-house but there you go

We need an experienced leader on the pitch, not a powder puff who can't tackle.

If this is what they're doing then I whole heartedly support it. I enjoy it when you get wound up.

Yeah you're right. It was the awful defensive tactics that had me on the verge of packing-in before he decided that he needed more money to fund anything other than drivel. In my opinion, anyone who looks back fondly on those times is kidding themselves or was half cut for a couple of seasons. The vast majority of it was absolutely crap; particularly when that midfield duo played.

It was crap. But it was safe, no threat of relegation, Championship crap. I'd take that crap over the current crap any day of the week.

Don't think you're far off with the two players in question like.

I'm struggling to tolerate this crap just the same Jay. Winning just enough games to stay out of trouble whilst boring the life out of people doesn't justify the financial or time costs for me. Having spent all week at work and my Sunday's filled with junior football, I need a bit of something from my Saturday's. Back in the Robins days, and once again now, the pub bit is still good, meeting the lads in the concourse is a laugh, and then it all turns ***** and leaves me in a farl mood.

I'll be honest in saying that at one point after relegation I briefly felt that it might not be a disaster and "...at least we'll win a lot more than we lose now".

    How wrong was I?!
