Wasn't Ryan Williams injured when we signed him?

Yeah, but you could almost hear the groans at open day when he announced he was crocked. The signing is looking like a bad decision, and it's not really with the benefit of hindsight. Players can get injured at any time, but to sign someone who can't possibly have passed a medical is asking for trouble.

Was well chuffed when we signed him but it appears there are underlying issues regarding his fitness.

    Medical not rigorous enough?

No idea really but it's hugely disappointing that he has not featured in proceedings.

At least he managed a few games for us. As did Jimmy McNulty and his missing internal organs. May have been preferable if he hadn't mind.

The Leeds lad I was thinking of is indeed Kevin Dixon, as another poster just mentioned.

There was something not right about his appearance earlier in the season. He didn't look injured, just out of practice but Johnson was well and truly upset with his performances waving his arms around on the touchline and getting quite angry then ahuked him off after 20 minutes or so. Yes he was poor but a lot of our players have had a poor first half and somehow stayed on the pitch.

More to it regarding the relationship between manager and player?

It's a very odd decision. I could understand us taking the risk and signing him injured if last season he was one of our best players, banged in lots of goals, set up plenty of goals and got regular MOTM awards. But he wasn't particularly outstanding, although we expected he should have been able to do a job for us at this level.

It's a decision I can understand. I sort of get why Johnson took a gamble on him, I'm sure the club medics would have advised it was a minor injury, something he would recover from pretty quickly. Physically they were right, he has recovered, but what they didn't or couldn't account for were his lack of mental strength or desire to play. I can forgive LJ for this, my personal frustration is aimed towards the player who is presently taking the pi55 out of us.

Yes one thread of the two threads was following the announcement that we signed him. Naturally the best place to see what the general consensus of the supporters was towards the signing. What a strange thing to link to.

The vast majority of people wanted us to sign him which is evidenced by either requests for us to sign him or delight once the club did sign him.

The accusation was that the club bowed down to our demands to sign Pearson. Hoping the club will sign him and expressing approval when we do is not the same as demanding we sign him. Further to that, I doubt there's a single post on here stating we should sign him even if he's injured.

    I'm with Blivy.

Every man and their dog wanted us to sign him. So much so that the vast majority thought it was pie in the sky stuff.

And guess what.. he could still turn out to be a great signing! :)

Williams apart from the 5 games with us and 2 with the aussie under 23s hasn't played competitive football for over 2 years, that's one bad groin injury

I'm pretty sure everyone was aware that he wasn't fit/still injured but generally were in agreement that it was a risk worth taking on a young, exciting player.

Of course the club and the fans didn't think he'd be out this long but it's not so easy to assess 'how injured' a player is during a medical. I just find it strange that people are now criticizing the club for signing him when the vast majority hoped/wanted/demanded (I'm not arguing semantics) that we signed him. I seem to recall someone saying they'd tweeted LJ asking him to sign him.

Yes it hasn't worked out so far and you could say that signing him has come back to bite us. Then again, he could still turn out to be a great player for us.

If we had the opportunity to cancel his contract today at no expense to us, I wouldn't want us to.
