Is it bad luck if you pick a poor performing goalkeeper who makes a mistake or is it bad judgement in picking the player in the first place?

I thought we carried a bit of luck ourselves early in the season. Its suppose to even itself out over a season.

It isn't luck, it's the lack of experience at the back, we should have gone for an experienced defender or goalkeeper, but no Johnson or the board or whoever wants to go down the route of young players to sell on and repeat with another young player to later sell on.

Totally agree with you, said same in another thread. Just got to keep going and the luck will inevitably change.

You have a weird definition of "luck".

Bad luck means not winning the lottery again this week. There was nothing i could about it, it is pure chance.

making basic errors when doing your job is not back luck, it is incompetence.

do you reckon that if i go to work on Monday, write a dodgy sql script and delete all my customer's data, that they will understand if i try to blame bad luck?

Bad luck? Like that time we got played off the park by Burton & ended up winning 1-0?

Like how we only had one injury for the first 2 months of the season & we were still ****?

    Works both ways

Mistakes aren't bad luck. Poor players make errors. The fault lies with those who signed the players, be that Johnson or whoever.

I'm not sure what you mean really; the lottery is a massive statistical improbability- not luck.

Making an error when trying to do something different/better- sounds more like luck to me.

I've no agreement or disagreement with you or the OP but you're a little unfair on what he/she is trying to say.

Agree. No matter what the stats say anyone with a hole in their arse can tell that Davies is a better keeper than Townsend. To be honest I'm ******* baffled why he isn't playing. It's not like he was just decent, he was brilliant last season. We've got a keeper who is more than good enough for this league and is probably already good enough for the league above, so what do we do? Bring in an inferior player on loan, play him ahead of Davies even after he's made a few **** ups, then make it permanent and continue to play him after even more **** ups.

I think we all have our issues with the "realising saleable assets" approach but **** me lads, if you're going to take that approach at least realise when you've got a massive asset under your nose and play him rather than paying for some numpty to play in his place.

the lottery is not luck? There is no finer example in our society of something that is based on luck. I've a feeling that why, when i buy a ticket, its called a "lucky dip".Or maybe its because if i buy a "massive statistical improbability dip" it doesn't have the same ring to it. :)

It's both isn't it? It is luck that dictates what numbers come out of the machine but it isn't luck that dictates your odds of winning. If you were willing to invest the time and money you could guarantee that you would win

The only bad luck we've had was when Johnson walked through the door. I've never called for a manager to lose his job......until now. It's not just the results, it's the absolute bu!!**** he comes out with.

since the addition of some extra balls there are now 48 million combinations of numbers. And at 2 quid a pop, you could indeed guarantee winning 5 million quid if you invested 96 million quid.

otherwise you buy a ticket and if you win it is nothing other than good luck, because there is nothing you could have done differently to increase your chances of winning, other than buy more tickets.
