Lose 2 games and the players are blamed. Lose 4 games and the manager gets blamed. Lose 6 games and it's the owner and Directors to blame. Lose another two and we'll be blaming the Good Lord!
Dont quite understand why Crynes getting stick because LJ's tactics are ****ing awful, other than employing him in the first place. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That is kind of the point. Any amount of due diligence would have lead them to the same conclusion many fans had reached when his name was first linked to us.
hmm. i get what you're saying, and it's much easier to back up because of where we are. but just playing devil's advocate on this, i've had a look at the top 3.. dean smith - no first team manager credentials, before getting the walsall job. just an assistant mgr at leyton, under a mgr with a win ratio marginally better than johnson's at oldham hasselbaink - just 35 games under his belt before getting the burton job, with a win ratio marginally better than johnson's at oldham justin edinburgh - rushden & newport the teams he managed prior to getting the gills job would anyone of those have passed our 'due diligence' test? if we sacked him tomorrow and looked at 3 candidates with those stats, can you see anything there that would get our fans excited? personally i can't see it.
Yeh I agree he should never have been appointed but the only person thats responsible for the appalling tactics is LJ. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think Mario is saying they should maybe have watched Oldham bloody play before offering him the job, because we were told by Oldham fans just how LJ likes to set up the team and his tactics. They thought it was boring and crap, while I take some of it with a pinch of salt and as sour grapes, I cannot remember ANYONE actually saying he was good. Even some of our fans went on Rochdale and Bury forums to say they thought Hill and Flicker were good, so that speaks volumes to me ! The bare stats may look good/decent, but if the football was poor then it makes no difference to what ever the dossiers ond 100 day plans say !
Due diligence? - in his only full season at Oldham their home goal tally was the second lowest in their 119 year history; - when appointed at Oakwell his Oldham had just lost nine of their last fourteen games conceding 29 goals; - there was no real clarity as to his role in the Ched Evans saga although I understand the Oldham Chairman has publicly stated that it was Johnson that asked their Board to sign Evans. What due diligence?
When I look at the team sheet it looks as though 3/4 of the team is made up of defenders or defensive midfield players. No wonder we never score from open play. I thought we looked alright with Davies in goal and Wabara, Nyatanga, Mawson and Smith across the back. I would play Scowen in front of them. I would tell those 5 to hold their positions. Then I would have 5 players whose job it is to attack the box and create chances. I don't really care on the combination of attackers/attacking midfielders. But their job would be to score or create goals. We don't need 5 across the back and 2 defensive midfielders. It's not working.
yeah i know. and i do agree with that. honestly i do. and i agree, what's out there on the pitch is fcukin horrible to watch at the minute. but what we're hearing is nowt new, is it? results business innit. i wasn't hearing this when we won our first 5 games. it's w&nk, i agree. totally. and summat needs to change. i just can't see that yet another new manager is anything other than back to square one
Personally I think it's easier to do due diligence on a manager with a couple of seasons under their belts than it is managers with relatively no experience.
aye. so if he got the bullet now, who would be our candidates? forget league 1 - no one in league 1 would touch us. so we go to league 2. an ex ross county manager and michael fcukin appleton. would either of us get the fans blessing? paul cook would be a sensible shout - but again, can't see us luring him at all. so basically, if he gets the bullet, we're gambling again. complete de ja vu. and i would absolutely expect us to be here again within another 12 months
Quite a few managers get a bounce when they first arrive, its how they perform after the bounce that really matters and if you take those five games out of the equation his record is atrocious.
I genuinely don't know who I'd go for, I really don't. The reputation of the club would put a lot of better candidates off us. We're in a right old mess and I don't know how we're going to get out of it.
Agreed mate. I know what I'd do though, if LJ gets the bullet. Crowdsource it. And I'm absolutely not taking the pi$$. Go out to the fans and make it their decision. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I just despair at our situation. And worst of all I genuinely care very little whether he stays or goes. I still support my club and always will. Yet I'm understanding how my dad and (late) grandad felt back in 1991 under Machin. The sterile football finished them off, after 44 and 74 years watching. Neither went back. There was a time when I'd rearrange work, the wife's work and everything else to get to Oakwell. Not now.
Mad Mel played some boring defensive football but we got results. We were a last minute goal by Dean Wilkins from reaching the second division play offs (championship for the younger posters).
