How so? He's coming for a trial. If he's bobbins we'll not offer him owt, if he's up to it we'll have an experienced CM on a freebie.

I can't see how anyone can be negative about it.

In theory, you're right. In practice it's Hugo ******* Colace! Although I accept not everyone has the same negative feelings towards him that I do.

On a more serious note. It appears that Colace has been more or less out of football since Johnson has been a manager. At best, he's been at some back of beyond clubs in Argentina. I'd be surprised if Johnson has even heard him, never mind invited him over for a trial. If he hasn't, who has, and why do they think a bloke in his 30s in Argentina who doesn't actually play football much any more is the answer to our problems?

You're right that it probably can't do any harm, but doesn't it just make you think, "what the ****?" Because it does me.

No it doesn't. But as you say we don't all have those negative feelings towards him. I thought he did reasonably well for us, not a great by any stretch, but oreyt.

Makes me think that somebody in the club has a great sense of humour. Imagine...

Board member 1: 'Hey lads, I've got one....no listen, listen, it'll have 'em creased'
Board member 2: 'Go on then, hit me with it.'
    Board member 1: 'Hugo Colace.'
Board member 2: 'The opera singer from Naked Gun?'
Board member 1: 'No that's Enrico Polazzo, numb nuts.'
Board member 2: 'So who the chuff is Hugo Colace?'
Board member 1: 'Wait and see lad, wait and see....they'll be so bemused they'll wet themselves'

Unless he has a EU passport he will find it very difficult to obtain a work permit.

Everyone I've spoken to about it off this forum either looks bemused or bursts out laughing. Even those who rated him.

"Hugo ******* Colace? Seriously?" is the usual response.

I sense this is a board signing more so than a manager signing if true.

Someone on here claimed that when he came back for his 3rd season after failing to get a club it was not at the behest of Mark Robins

I'm all for giving old players a chance to return. I'd have Hammill and Dickinson back in a shot as well.

But I just can't see this working. Never mind the fact he hasn't played in ages, for me, he was never any better than Perkins for instance. In fact I remember thinking that Perkins was a distinct improvement on him, and that Scowen was an improvement on Perkins...

Then again, this is League1 - not the Championship. What he does have is experience and I wish him all the best if he ever pulls the red shirt on again.

Can't see why anyone would moan at this.

If he's still got it great.

If he hasn't it's a shame & we move on.

    Happy days
