"We need to deal with the immediate situation" for me reads Lee Johnsons position, trouble is what serious candidate would take the job knowing the owner is looking to sell the club to someone else.
No worries - I do think it's something fans should publicly know about though, without this it just looks like the club is happily drifting into the abyss. We're still drifting, and will almost certainly drop to the fourth tier, but at least we know what's going on. I still fell as fed up and helpless as I did last night, but I'm less pissed off knowing changes will actually be made, for better or worse.
He won't sack LJ, for me he means getting him new/better players to lift us up the league table and to win the John Stones paint trophy!!!!!
It strikes me as somewhat childish to respond to comments from people suggesting that Mansford and his son pick the team. They are stupid to suggest as much and he should just ignore them. The overall recruitment policy, however, is another matter and Cryne might have a role in that...
How many people have actually seriously claimed that Ben or James are selecting the starting 11? It can't be more than 2 or 3 idiots can it?
Well I think we can make a reasonable assumption that a long line of people who support Barnsley and are from the town, being involved with the club could quite likely come to an end when Cryne sells. Unless it's to the fans. It could be bad, it could be good - but there we go.
It's not just that claim though is it? There's the posts from various people saying that Johnson isn't even in charge of picking who we sign. And that's a fairly serious accusation you'd want to clear up.
I've actually had a conversation with someone one Twitter today who believed this to be true. Unbelievable really
Got to feel sorry for him I remember just before he took over he said he wasn't keen on becoming involved in case of this situation - he just wanted to be a normal fan.
I'll personally find it a sad day when Patrick sells up, it's rare that you get a genuine supporter as owner of a club
Yes but isn't that a totally different claim than a claim that he isn't picking the starting 11? I think it works like this. People including Ben AND James are identifying players via differing methods, James using a statistical spreadsheet approach and Ben using his agents contacts book, others using whatever methods they prefer. They then discuss these players and suggest them to Lee who says whether he agrees with the signing or not. If he does then everyone's happy and they attempt to sign the player, if he doesn't then they don't. Now there is absolutely nothing at all wrong with that, it doesn't even sound that unusual really so why wouldn't that just be confirmed? I mean last season we had a weird situation where Patrick stated how actively involved James had been only to then play it down as much as he could when questioned. The only problem with the above scenario of James, Ben and co identifying targets is that it must make it harder for a manager to say no to the suggestions when they are being made by the owners family and your boss instead of by your employed scout who works on your instruction. If my boss at work heavily suggested I do something whilst giving me the option to say no it's a bit hard to actually say no, especially when I am underperforming anyway. Then there is the other issue of him being head coach not manager which MAY mean that James, Ben, Patrick and the others are devising the strategy and TYPE of players that are to be suggested and Lee is still given the option to say yes or no to them.in this scenario Lee still gets final say but what's to say he can only choose between a 17 year old from Stoke or an 18 year old from Leicester when he would actually prefer a 31 year old. Again I'm not saying that is what happens but I think they are perfectly plausible scenarios and are perfectly acceptable questions to ask of the club yet when they are asked they are deflected by instead focusing on the one or two idiots making the extreme suggestions that Lee isn't even in charge on match days
My response on facebook: Andy White Massive overreaction. I've seen the odd comment about a change of owner, a handful at most. Nothing to act upon, for **** sake. I have though seen hundreds of comments saying the manager should go, and plenty calling for Mansford to be moved on. So aye, I see this statement as an overreaction, a response to a handful of comments, totally missing the issue and causing people to focus on something that isn't an issue. I am not one of the supporters calling for you to go. I'm one of the massive majority of supporters who just feel you've backed the wrong horse, both in terms of the manager/coach, and the strategy behind him. I would imagine that the best way to please people would be to fix those issues, not create a new one. However, it's your life, your choice. My opinion is merely that. You'll do as you wish, but don't try telling us that this is what we've asked for. That would be a monstrous lie.....
Re: Got to feel sorry for him I feel genuinely sorry for him. He's tried all sorts with different managers and it's just not worked. But let's not kid ourselves, so have many other clubs. Some spending far more money too. As a casual throwaway observation I've often wondered what would have happened had he just spent most of the money he has done in all these seasons in just half as many or less.
I don't think Mr Cryne has made any mention of selling the club. That's not to say he won't, but I don't think that's actually what he's said. Apologies if I've got that wrong. I don't know what will happen, but my opinion is that he will give the club to his son.
