Right! I'll put it in layman's terms. If u sent 5 young painters to paint a nice house with hardly any expeience .....is apprentices .....it would be a balls up
That's no reflection on his ability. Newcastle play one striker & have Mitrovic & Cisse to choose from
I'd take that right now. Cole wasn't the best player we've ever had, but we've had nowt like him since. He got in behind defenders and although he missed plenty of chances, he created the majority himself with that pace and he did score a few. I wasn't sure if we'd miss him or not when he left, but I thought we'd recruit. Almost 12 months on the only permanent out and out striker we've brought in is Simeon Jackson, and we don't even play him. I'd even take Kane Hemmings over what we've got now. He wasn't much of a player at this level but at least he tried and he'd got a good shot on him. Not sure what the attributes are of some of the players we've signed.
He might be the next Pele but LJs tactics and formations will soon have him playing like Fola Onibuje.

I'm not saying this kid is the answer as until today I had never heard of him so will reserve judgement until he actually plays for us, but... 1 - Yes we need experience, but I don't think we need it up front. We need it in the middle of the park so this signing IMO would not add to our problem of inexperience. 2 - The main difference between the two sides on Tuesday night was Adam Armstrong. He worked incredibly hard (not just for a loan player), had good awareness, a decent touch and was very very quick off the mark. Our back four were scared of him. At the other end of the pitch we had Smith (later replaced by Wilkinson) who both offered none of the qualities mentioned above. Armstrong's pace and movement set the tone for the match and we were unable to press without fear of the ball over the top. Cov had no such worries and in all honesty could have left Smith and Wilkinson totally unmarked without worry. Yes we have a lot of strikers already, but none that offer what Armstrong did. Someone mentioned above this guy looks like Devante Cole #2 , i'd happily take Cole back! he would make a difference in this team. 3 - Who is to say this guy comes in and looks good, scores a few. Smith & Wilkinson go back in January and we are back down to a normal amount of strikers and loan players. Don't really understand the obsession with the number of loan players. Some work, some don't. Doesn't mean we should avoid them all together.
I saw this on twitter this morning and thought it was nonsense. I know we have to do something and we cant score from open play but another loan and another kid. As a few have said he may be brilliant but in a team lacking experience he is going to struggle just like a lot of the very promising young players we already have. Johnson says we just cant get experienced players who are available but Coventry got Joe Cole. I'm not saying we should sign Michael Ballack but there must be some experienced players at Div 1 level who we can BUY!
Time will tell, but don't hold your breath. Newcastle could well do with a striker themselves right now who can score for fun.
Probably not the position we are looking to strengthen but on the experience thing, how the hell has Shrewsbury signed Zak Whitbread who's played for Derby,Leicester & Norwich & we haven't had a sniff. Add to this the likes of Clarke/ Pope etc we could've had a right team of free transfers. Then add a few young players to that through the loan system
Completely agree. There's hundreds of free agents knocking about with plenty of experience in June / July but we didn't go for any of them & then complain we can't find players with experience in October
Toney's nothing like Cole except in physique. Toney's strong & good at holding the ball up, has no issues challenging for headers but he's nowhere near as good of a finisher as Cole is
The problem is with me is that not only are we bringing in another loan player who's not experienced yet we got Michael Smith who is in this league a goalscorer yet he hardly plays. No doubt this kid is one of Mansfords many players in his agency
I'd argue Toney is a better finisher, think he got 13 goals for Northampton last season, just less pacey
