Do you think he's good enough to be a regular starter if we are to be successful in this division? Do you think he'll make it at BFC? (Be offered a contract extension) Do you think he'll make it in the professional game? I'm not trolling here I'm just after opinions. My opinion is he'll drop out of the football league before hes 22.
Yes. I think he is a decent young player with plenty of potential to develop. More suited to the traditional full back role than any variation on a theme. I don't (at this moment) see him progressing beyond L1 but time may change that.
Against the grain as usual but I don't think he's up to it. Poor positionally and light a rabbit in the headlights most of the time. Might help him if he was in a better team but at the moment he's not for me.
My thoughts too. Not a big fan and I honestly don't think he's improving enough to warrant a place in the side. I was amazed we didn't sign a left-back in the summer. He'll probably get another contract and stay for a few years yet, though.
Yes. Yes. Yes. He's 19, had less than a year's league experience under his belt, is years away from his prime and still has much to learn. But I believe the boy has what it takes to make a career in the game.
I think he's been one of our best & most consistent performers and considering he's only 18 I've been massively impressed.
I think he's done alright. From hardly starting to starting every week, in a poor, struggling side, at a young age, without any experienced mentors on the field (or off). I don't think replacing him should be our immediate concern in January
This ^^^^^ I just find it disappointing that the first thought of some of our fans is that any player coming up through our ranks is to find fault and unless they are obviously international class be dismissing them as not good enough for us Its not a new phenomenon. I remember some of the stick Mick McCarthy and Ian Banks got from some sections of the crowd in their early games
He would be a different player if he was playing in a decent team. Hard for an 18 year old to play in a poor side.
Absolutely this. He's made fewer mistakes than his fellow defenders and is generally dependable. If he can improve going forward he'll be in the championship or better before long.
Sorry, but I don't rate George Smith. I hope I'm wrong. He has been caught out of position on quite a few occasions, and his crossing is appalling. Okay, some may say he's a defender and not a wing-back, but Sunday league players can cross a ball into dangerous areas, without over hitting them like Smith has been doing. Against Altrincham, he rarely found another team mate with his passing, too.
He`s played better than some of our most recent experienced left backs, not with out a mistake or two but still learning.
George Smith will be no where near Championship in my opinion. At the minute he looks closer to League 2.
I think he's just ok. One of the few youngsters that actually finds his level with us rather than going up the leagues or getting released. I like the lad, solid defender needs to improve offensively but for me there's a reliable player in him. And over the past month he's been our best defender by a distance.
I still cant make my mind up about him, sometimes he looks great attacking and defending but then most of the time he doesn't go past the half way line but still does okay in defence. Potential is there to do something but he needs to get more confidence going forward.
