Outstanding talent for us. Lost his way a bit. Hope he can come good for us. Let's be honest, if he does get close to his old ways, we have the best player in this league, by far.

Parents uneasy at their kids worshipping a guy with his past, club gambling on a guy reaching form he's not seen for the best part of a decade and a player who's done very little since leaving us. Can't say i'm pleased.

I'm open minded on this one.

It's only 5 years ago he was ripping Leeds to shreds. Hardly best part of a decade. If he provides half the excitement he did that night, he'll be a big improvement on the ***** we're being served up this season.

He's hardly Ched Evans is he? Yes he smacked a paramedic, but I understand it wasn't wilfully malicious, he was hammered and thought he was being attacked by aliens or summat. Not that that makes it right, but in terms of footballers' misadventures it's very much at the mild end.

As for the gamble - we all know he's got the talent, and if he's 1/4 of the player he was for us previously he'll tear this league a new ar5ehole. Plus it's not like we've given him a 4 year, 10 grand a week contract - he's on a short term deal so we can work out whether he's still got it or not and then go from there.

I'd say it's actually one of our more sensible deals this season, and certainly less of a gamble than signing yet another kid on loan and throwing them into the deep end of a League 1 relegation scrap.

    I'm happy he's back.

Along with Vaz Te & Howard he's one of the very few that genuinely excited me watching him.

Yes, he's done daft things but nothing that I think should tar him for the rest of his career.

We aren't talking about a rapist, drunk driver, murderer etc. Just a lad who swung his arms about when he could barely stand up when going through a bad period in his life.

Most people I know have on at least one occasion had some bother on a night out

Very talented player.Since he left us all his football as been Premiership/Championship level. He only left Huddersfield in September I believe and since then he's been training with Bolton. At 27 he has yet to reach his prime.I think this time the powers that be deserve some credit for pulling this deal off.Whether its under Johnson or another manager Hammill is a good player for Barnsley FC.

If he's only 65% of the player we had, hell be our best player!

Agree with pretty much all this. In terms of what he actually did, smacking the paramedic, it's not good and I'm not going to pretend for a minute that it is. As a professional sportsman he shouldn't have been so drunk in the first place. Well, none of us should really, but I can't talk. However, I understand he was thoroughly embarrassed about his behaviour and very apologetic. That doesn't make anything right. But once you've done summat you shouldn't, it's the first step towards trying to make it better. The second is not doing it again.

No idea if he will be a success again here, I hope so, but we'll see. Seems like a gamble worth taking though. Maybe it'll work both ways. He'll help us out of the mire and under Lee Johnson we'll help Hammill become a better person.

Word of warning though Lee. You said the following in your interview, "He has a great pedigree, he's quick, direct and will get crosses into the box." No he won't, he'll cut inside the defender and leather it in to the top corner.

It's not even five years since he left!!

He's signed. Get behind him, support him - he might get it back. If he's universally booed he certainly won't.

Only if he's equipped by his manager with the tactics and freedom to do so.

Knowing Johnson he'll probably decide that even though hammill is proven at being fantastic at long and mid range shooting, great technique, pace and accuracy (even if his legs have gone he'd still have that) - he's got to stay out with chalk on his boots. To cross to one striker. Probably the kid from Newcastle

Exciting signing - might even get me down to Oakwell on Tuesday.

Is he eligible to play? Do people think he will start?

Do you actually know any parents who've got those concerns? You're blowing it up out of all proportion.

In which case he'll be taking a leaf out of Ronnie Glavin's book after Sniffer told him to do a defensive midfield role and Ronnie decided to do what he did best. Sniffer dropped him for that but ultimately couldn't ignore what Ronnie bought to the team and the rest is history - the most exciting player I've seen at Oakwell.

Best of luck to Adam. Hopefully we can put his career back on track.

Wasn't suggesting they will have, just making the point that if anyone says he's past it, the last thing to go is the shot. Bit like boxers and punching.

I would like to think he could be brilliant, needs a few games to get match sharp though
