Good win, decent game, great to see hammill and attacking footy but...

we need to stop doing a few things that are really hurting us.

    1. Mawson and a few others playing the ball backwards into defence or across the defence instead of carrying it forward or playing through the channels.
We are either giving the ball away or putting ourselves under stupid pressure. This exact thing cost us a goal tonight.

    2. Defenders running out of defence with the ball instead of making the easy pass to midfield. They end up overrunning the ball and having to lay it off and leaving holes behind them. The forced pass is often poor and the next pass is again a panic pass. JUST PLAY THE SIMPLE BALL. Tangs worst for this but Mawson also does it and tonight got caught and almost cost us a goal.

    3. Playing the ball from say right back all way across defence to left back who then passes to hourihane who then tries to play the ball all the way cross field to right wing. 9 times out of 10 we gave the ball away and went under pressure. Im guessing we are trying to create space by draggin players over but its ****. Stop it. Think it came off once tonight.

    4. Strikers need to make more runs and movement and show for Smith. Smith is getting hammered for not playing the ball but it would help if he had an outlet. Get off his back people - hes young and learning but his teammates are not exactly helping him out. Smith is decent and will be a good player for us. He shouldnt be getting the stick he is.

One other general point is Pearson is well off his game. He is proper golden boy. I wonder if he would have played tonight had scowen not been injured.

If we cut those mistakes out from our game im sure we would be a lot better off.

We aren't that bad, these mistakes are what keep costing us. But of experience in defence or midfield would do us greatly

I don't know how you can criticise the strikers for not making runs Simeone Jackson showed better movement tonight than I've seen from a striker all season.

I agree Smith had limited options at times tonight, but his general play was still awful. Really poor and would definitely benefit from a break and possibly a loan to a lower league side, if we had another left back in the squad...

Twitter is awful for it. Only really seen redarmychris on here bang on and on about him, but on twitter there's a real hatred for him bizarrely, similar stuff said that Wiseman used to get. I really don't get it myself, I think he's a decent laiker for 18.

I dont bang on and on about him.

I'd like him to do well.

He's very poor though and if we had a good left back it would benefit the team massively.

agreed and he should have played saturday. Still feel he is getting harsh treatment. Yes his decision making is still not there but hes learning. He will get there so long as people dont knock everything out of him before.

You do mention your dislike for him a lot, pal. I'm not making it up, and I'm not against it either. It's a forum for opinions and that's yours. I happen to think he's decent for an 18 year old kid, but I've been saying we need a more experienced option in that position, ever since we were relegated. Dudgeon was ok, but his knee condition was well known and it didn't work out for him. I think LB competition would help George progress. I also believe our own young lads, Barnsley born in particular, I reckon it'd help if supporters backed em rather than not. I don't mean you, or folk who pass comment on them online etc, but at the games. I've noticed it this season, he gets a fair bit of stick does Smith. I don't understand it, because compared to Pearson, Mawson and Wabara, his mistakes are much rarer. He just needs to be braver in possession, back himself more, get forward. It's probably a confidence thing. Which backing from the stands will help with. Maybe.

I always back him and every player from the stands.

I agree he doesn't make many obvious mistakes but in my opinion not passing the ball forwards is one of the biggest mistakes you can make as a professional footballer.

90% of Smiths passes go backwards or sideways. Tonight he nearly cost us a goal with a sideways pass.

He's also really stiff on the ball and so unbalanced and one footed. Those flaws did contribute to costing us a goal tonight.

I think people are blind to it because he's a Barnsley lad.

It used to make me laugh when some said he was as good as Holgate.
