Do any BBSers know someone in Barnsley who'll lift a shipping container? I imagine it must be ten metres across, and weigh a couple of tonnes. I don't want it filling, or taking away, I just need it to be lifted: but I am happy to pay the full price just to get the bloody thing off the ground. Cheers.
CK Becketts have some seriously big Hiab trucks that would be up to the task. Not sure how much it would cost though
Can't it be lifted with jacks ?
Maybe, but I'd still need someone with the equipment. I can't even drive a car. I've got no lifting gear whatsoever. You've put the thought into my head now, though. If CK Beckett can't help, that'll be my next line of action. Thank you for your suggestion.
According to google. An empty 20ft shipping container weights about 2.4 tonne. Empty 40ft container approx 3.8 tonne. 5 tonne bottle jack £19.99 http://www.screwfix.com/p/hilka-pro-craft-5-tonne-bottle-jack/40473 or 12 tonne bottle jack £29.99 http://www.screwfix.com/p/hilka-pro-craft-12-tonne-bottle-jack/81423 I've never done this myself, but I'd guess you dig a hole below one edge. Place a concrete block in the hole for firm base and then jack up. Inserting blocks under the corners. Repeat on four sides until it's off the ground.
Ive hired a few containers from here over the years..... http://www.elliottuk.com/hire They're based in Wakey - worth a phone-call as they have the Hi-abs to do the job?
Try mobile mini near newmillerdam, we've had some cabins in the past so they definately have the right equipment 01924 254254
