In 1998, Danny Wilson became the last of our managers to resign. Since then we have had 13 managers. Lee Johnson's 12 predecessors were all sacked. (OK, Mark Robins fans he was pushed into resigning. I call that sacked). Over the last 17 years, we have had a 100% failure rate and we have gradually spiralled down to our present position.

I know that our present position is extremely frustrating, but if we were to go to the expense of sacking another manager, surely we should be looking for some sort of guarantee that the next manager will be more successful than the previous 13. So, what we would be looking for is:-

    a. A manager who has over-achieved against his budget over a period of at least 4 seasons or alternatively whilst managing at several different clubs.
    b. A manager with contacts who can recognise talent and pick it up at a price and at wages that we can afford.
    c. A manager who has achieved all the above, whilst his team has played attractive and entertaining football.
    d. A manager who has achieved all the above whilst also having a record of developing young players and selling them at a profit.
    e. A manager who has achieved all the above and who still only demands a salary that is affordable.
    f. A manager who has ticked all these boxes, and wants to come and work for us.

Having identified the sort of man that we want to manage us, can other posters provide a list below so that we can send it to Patrick Cryne without delay.

That would have sounded like a good description of Danny Wilson until his second stint with us.

Darren Ferguson would have been on that list before Donny snapped him up.

So Danny Wilson it is then!

I don't think the manager who fits all the above criterior has been born yet.

Why is A on the criteria when we've supposedly got a top 4 budget?

He wasn't. But 'some job' is stretching it for me.

Hammill, Doyle, Steele, Hassell, Foster, Shackell, McShane, Trippier, Haynes, Gray, Colace, Devaney, O'Brien, Butterfield, O'Connor, Harewood etc. Some reight talent there. He got them to 17th.

I wouldn't have got rid of Danny but Paul Cook would've been a good shout instead of 8LJ.

Our most successful appointments came to us as player/coach, or player manager, including Allan Clarke and Danny Wilson. Can anyone see other players around in this stage of their career? I think it unlikely that LJ will get the boot, although he cannot just go on losing, can he? On the other hand, we cannot just go on changing managers either. I cannot see us winning at either Oldham, or Peterborough in our current form, which could mean ten straight losses. it is odd that we continue to lose when no side has thrashed us. Naivety and inexperience seem to be our problems - we don't score in periods of dominance and then concede on the, sometimes few, occasions we have to defend. If we were being thrashed every week, I think LJ would have gone, but that is not what is happening. I think we could do with an experienced holding midfielder and striker. My best shouts are Kevin Nolan (could be player/coach role), or Keith Andrews and, strikers, Aaron Wilbraham, Frederica Macheda, Chris O'Grady, or Marc Richards. Those coming in would be presumed to be replacements for loanees not extended, such as Michael Smith and Ben Pearson. Thoughts?

Reight talent? Shackell, McShane, Trippier, Hammill (at the time) l'd agree with but the rest, lower league Championship players at best. That's no disrespect to your young un, he improved ten fold the season after and now prospering from it.
