Consensus: We're poor at the back, need a commanding centre half Options available in November: 1) Loan 2) Out of contract player Result: Player brought in on loan from a team in the league above and Premier League last year Outcome: Complain
Cheers for reminding me ar were gunna tek a look at Complan ont web. Soreight eyes are gerrin int same sorry state as mi memory.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Long_(footballer) 22 games in 5 years for Burnley. Hardly anything to write home about. Couple of 4th tier loans in that time. Before signed for Burnley playing in Ireland which is hardly known for it's high level of football. I have never seen him play so can only go on the stats. I dunno if he's injury prone for his lack of games or just not deemed good enough by Burnley or anyone else (for us to be looking at him).
I think that Kevin Long is highly-rated at Burnley and was desperately unlucky to suffer injury on his debut at Newcastle. I can recall it being on tv Match of the Day. Burnley were starting to look promising, but, that game, Shackell went off injured early on and was followed very quickly by Long, who was his replacement. Burnley still managed a 3-3 draw. Long looks a lot like Shackell and must have been lined up as his replacement before the injury. I think he will be a good acquisition, but would rather have seen an influential holding midfielder to play in front of the back four. I wouldn't have minded Kevin Nolan, as he is out of contract, but maybe Mawson will switch into that role. Hope it works, as the next three games are not easy, ending with Blunts at Oakwell.
And he as OK for us. Not rubbish but not brilliant. On the flipside Jay Rodriguez was highly rated at Burnley but was rubbish for us.
He scored on debut and looked like a raw talent in his very brief time with us. Hardly rubbish. And Stephen Foster was a fantastic piece of business at the time, an absolute hero in my opinion who never gave anything short of 100%. Top bloke away from football too. As you can see, I disagree with you. As usual.
If he's was in our back 4, we'd be midtable. Nyatanga's a decent player. Alongside the experience of Cranie or Ramage last season he was excellent. But when he's the man, when he's doing the organising, he's not nearly the same player. He can't do it. He needs an old head at the side of him. The same may well be true of Mawson and Roberts. Unfortunately, the same may also be true of Long.
I'd be very disappointed if the key criteria in the search for this player wasn't 'has he got a big gob and doesn't shut up talking for 90 minutes'
We tried to sign him before he went to burnley. It was a death him the family. His dad I think which led to him wanting to stay in the noryh west closer to home. Season after gordie picked blower up spoke tocotterill and the rest is history
