    Reighto.

So as I say, when at the request of his family and loved ones a section of supporters pay their respects tomorrow by applauding in the 7th minute, you don't have to.

    It's really that simple.

I'm of the opinion we could hold a minutes silence/applause just once, at the end of every year (last home game in December) which would give folk the opportunity to remember loved ones lost. But I've always applauded/stood silently on occasions such as this as it either doesn't hurt me to be respectful or I've known of the person.

Each to their own mate. No?

I'm in agreement. The applause, silence etc. thats crept into our everyday lifes is getting, well, meaningless. People are judged for not joining in, so like lemmings we all go along with it. Even if your completely oblivious as to why were applauding or being quiet for. Same with the outpouring of RIP messages on social media when the person who's passed away has no social contact with you.

I fully agree. I have absolutely no issue with people like you applauding a friend or acquaintance or whatever, its just the meaningless faceless applauding of people we know nothing about that I think is ridiculous and I used this example to point that out because oft he obvious reasons why a lot wouldn't join in but in reality will do as they don't know. Agree with the idea of a minute at the end of the season or even one twice a year

    That's a fair point I suppose. But I'm obviously a Lemming because I always clap/be silent.

    Owt for an easy/quiet life.

The worst one being when those two Brighton fans died in the plane crash.

I wasn't pleased they died. I wasn't sad, either. What, someone I've never met, of whom I've never heard even, just died? Devastating for their families and loved ones. Utterly irrelevant to me.

Had it been a Brighton player, there is a connection to Barnsley FC and hence to me as a Barnsley fan: the player might have scored against us, or played against us. He would have had some kind of connection that merits a silence.

Those fans, though? Well, they were people. I'm a person. Look at my head and my two arms.

If that's all, though, people die all the time. Let's just be quiet 24/7 and be done with it, or not allow ourselves to sleep because we're busy applauding all day, every day.

Public mourning: jumping the shark since Princess Diana.

I wouldn't usually applaud a bnp member as don't class them as a political group just rasicts. But I like to see bfc as a community club he was one of our home seeing his face I've seen him and spoke to him sure in courthouse and at away games. And he must have been in a bad place to take his own life so ill give him a minutes applaud

    Thank you, whoever you are.

Not actually true though, but you carry on abusing me.

We might as well just applaud our way through every single home match, just in case.

    Yes that might work!

I'm waiting for one of these minute's applause periods to be interrupted by us scoring a goal. What happens then?

Are we all being disrespectful for interrupting the "tribute" to jump up and down cheering wildly?

Just because I go to watch the same football team as somebody doesn't mean I respect them. Some of our supporters are absolute numpties, and it sounds like this guy was one of those.

Repecting someone's passing is different to respecting the person. Either way, I don't sign up to this applause or silence ritual. If other people want to (or not), it's their choice.

It is getting ridiculous now though, started with genuine tragic cases and now ongoing , still can't see why we can't have a dignified 'roll call' for people who die naturally at the end of the season with continuous applause.

I'll be joining in. I knew Lobby. Even if you don't agree with his lifestyle is suggest that hearing a rousing round of applause will be of great comfort for his close family and children and grand kids that will be in attendance.
