Just watched the highlights and their first goal is a goalkeeping nightmare. Said it today more times than I care to remember. "" F F S come off your line and collect the ball!". The sheff utd player was less than a yard off the goal line when he headed it... and area any half decent goalkeeper should make his own, not bloody dither on the goal line while the two centre halves wait for each other to attack the ball Bloody hell it ain't rocket science.Mawson and Nayantanga... nice guys but that isn't what makes a good centre half it's being dominant in your own area..ask Mick Mc Carthy, Gerry Taggart, Eric Winstanley, Arjan De Zeuww etc That's how Port vale scored last week with Mawson rooted.
Yes but he made two top class saves in the second half to keep us in it and that's why despite his error on the first goal ( not the only one at fault ) he got MOTM
We've not had a commanding keeper since Muller. As for the CB's, it's baffling how they play like they don't know each other each week.
Yes but he makes one every week in a position where you can't afford to make mistakes. Luke Steele madevthese two goalkeepers look crap. Forwards can and do make the odd mistake and get away with it but the goalkeeper can't. How many goals have we conceded so far...too bloody many!
Remember Nick Coogan, another who always made a blunder per game. Even in the playoff final. Thankfully we got away with it then. Going back even further was Roy Ironside, he too used to make a cockup per game in the old Div 4 games.Which is where we will.be with these two and a leaky defence.
In the first minute he failed to collect a cross and had to be bailed out by his defence. At situations like their goal, a keeper has to push his way through and get something on the ball.
It's amazing ain't it were all talking about a goalkeeper who's kept us in a game today making a mistake but correct me if I'm wrong nobody's mentioned the penalty miss or the one from Isgrove how he's missed I'll never know. There the chances what have cost us 3 points today.
We would have got hammered yesterday without Davies in goal. He wasn't the only one at fault for their goal but you wouldn't think that by reading some of the comments on here. He more than atoned for his error (singular) yesterday, yet he's getting blamed for the result in spite of the fact that we only scored one goal down the other end, and he pulled off about 4 saves which wouldn't have been out of place in the premier league. I think experience is a big thing. Ideally we should have one young & one experienced keeper. Preece was pretty poor but Steele said several times he was a big help to him
Agree. Personally think we are heavily missing Crossley. Club may have underestimated how much value he brought to improving the keepers. Davies' form last season was immense. Not the same keeper at present.
