I had to go through a red light this morning on county way to make way for an ambulance ( no option to pull to the side)

How does this work if I get a fine through post and the ambulance doesn't show on the image ?

Because I went through red light before the ambulance went past not at the same time ?

Even if the ambulance was directly behind you lights flashing and the works you would still technically be guilty and get the points. They have been known to enforce that too, though have also been known to cancel the fine.

As for it not being in the image, that wouldn't necessarily be a problem as all blue light calls are logged so there will be evidence to prove an ambulance on a call was there at the time.

P's, if a police car with lights onndirects you to move that is a different matter

Bloke l used to work with moved through some in Sandal to let a fire engine through and got a fine and points in the post. He contested it and l believe in the end he got away with it but it took months and many letters.

if there isnt a red light camera you should be fine as in the unlikely event there was a traffic cop watching you he would be very unlikely to take any action if there was an Ambulance behind you.
If there is a camera you might have more difficulty - it is illegal to cross a red light even if the vehicle behind is a police car despite what Supertyke says. You are not trained to cross a red light - the only time the police can tell you to cross one is if they are on duty managing traffic - sitting behind you in a car isn't the same even if they have the blues and two's on.
If you do get a NOIP you could try and argue the case and in many cases they have been dropped but not all of them.

The law is clear you cannot cross a red light - the reason is you may well cause an accident yourself ( I am not saying you were not careful and checked it was safe but the law isnt so flexible as certainly drivers have pulled into oncoming traffic in those circumstances)

for this offence, and it will be a one off....

they will probably bring back the death penalty.... you will be locked in a room with Whitey and TheReeve... whereupon they will talk incessantly to you until you die a lingering screaming death. No appeals either.

I was under the impression that a uniformed officer can direct you through a red light. A police car simply behind you isn't enough but an officer in one actually directing you through is as far as I'm aware legal

The Emergency services put a video out on this topic and one thing which was made clear was you must not go through on Red. I did once find myself in a high speed chase through Penistone when the only thing I could do was speed up until I could pull over. I found myself in a convoy sandwiched between Fire Brigade, Ambulance and Police cars.

There isnt any red light cameras in Barnsley according to a traffic cop i know. You would have to be seen by the police. Would be a jobsworth if they did you imo

I've always wondered, if you're in a one lane contra-flow on the motorway with an emergency vehicle behind you and nowhere to move over, what are you supposed to do?
