Dannys a pure goalscorer. Between the 12 and 6 yards marks we've still not got a player better than him and we didn't when Danny Wilson the genius and brought in Leroy Lita and Danny went.
I don't understand these comparisons. On paper we might have been better off with Rose than Wilkinson, but come on, on paper Michael Smith is by far and away a better prospect than Rose and Wilkinson put together. For whatever reason it's not worked out for him here. Maybe a run of games would have helped him.
Yes great move that was bring in lita and get rid of danny rose great bit of business danny. Was never really given a chance under Wilson and obviously Wilson didn't rate him or wouldn't have let him go looking back that was a mistake.
I don't believe for any second that Danny Rose wanted to leave the club. I actually had the chance to speak to him last season and I said you shouldn't have gone. The facial expression told me everything. I was stood with Barry Taylor at the time and he also said he shouldn't have gone.
If he was in Wilsons plans he wouldn't have gone but we had kane hemmings and Leroy lita. I'm sure he would have much rather stayed at his home town club.
Lita was already training with the club wasn't he? And Danny didn't push him out the club accepted an offer didn't they? Agree on Rose in terms of his ability. Much better option than Hemmings & Lita last season & much better than Smith & Wilkinson this season. I liked him, natural finisher, gave his all, local lad & had a nasty streak that I liked to see in a striker. Brilliant the way he wound up Shittu & Shackell
Smith's only had one season of any note in his career. When you consider that Rose had scored goals in brief appearances for us & scored plenty on a loan spell in league 2 whilst still a teenager I think he was a great prospect
Really pleased for the lad, the same with Oates on Friday night. I'd have preferred to see both of them doing their stuff for us, but sadly, it wasn't to be. 'Twas ever thus, though. My favourite ever Barnsley manager, Allan Clarke, shipped midfielder David Speedie out of the club to Darlington after a series of disciplinary issues. In the mid 1980's, three of our talented youngsters all left to join Sheffield Wednesday (Hirst, Kiwomya, Knight). I hope we'll see more of our youngsters come through and make the grade with the first team.
Worth noting that Flitcroft knows what works in the lower leagues. Plays a strong man alongside a poacher. Either Clarke or Lowe alongside either Rose or Nardiello. Simple game is football
A massive mistake not to keep him. I thought so at the time and nothing that's happened since has changed my mind.
That depends how much money we got for him. We sold him, we didn't give him away. Bury met our valuation of him, we gave him the option and he chose to leave. I would have preferred we kept him, but it is what it is. And although he's scored today, he's not setting the division alight. That's his 6th goal of the season and he's on the bench more often than he plays. The comparisons made to the players mentioned in this thread are erroneous. Wilson signed Winnall to be the main goal poacher in the side, the position that Rose plays. Winnall has seven goals this season and as much potential as Rose may have, I'd play Winnall ahead of him every time. We don't know yet if we made a mistake selling the lad. He may go on to better things, he may not. We'll have to see.
