4 lanes finally opened this morning, northbound between 39-41 after nearly two and a half years, Mondays journey between Barnsley & Headingley 1hr 25 mins, today 40 mins. Hats off to em, it's been a long time coming, they need to crack on with the southbound part though.
31 down to 28 (?) has been horrendous as well. That one below Worksop must have been 25 miles at it's peak. And only late on this year did ministers cotton on that it is totally unreasonable to have such a long stretch of motorway under restrictions at the same time. Hopefully that will be all done when we fly from EMA in the New Year.
Driven through the one below Workshop, ridiculous length of motorway to do all at once. I don't know why they feel the need to do the stretch below 36, it's only busy at Christmas.
Isn't it starting at 36 and going through 34? I know below Meadowhall its bad but 34-36 section I've not had any problems.
I drive on the bridge over the M1 on my way to my office in Chapeltown. It's normally between 7.30 and 8.30 am. I can't remember the last time that there hasn't been stationary traffic on the southbound carrigeway.
Still disruptions southbound as I drive from Wendy to Barnsley daily for work and it's pot luck if junction 41,40 or 39 sliproad has night closures.
Officially restrictions are suppose to be lifted on the 12th. This mornings experience. Car hogging middle lane, me in 1st. Lanes change to 4 lanes, I move across to 1st. Car now hogging 3rd lane. I'm parallel to this idiot. Gets to junction 41, car in 3rd lane realized it's is junction and swerves across two lane before breaking heavily to miss me in the 1st and just make it to the junction. Also, if your travelling North. The speed cameras are on the 5th and 12th signage. They're the two little grey cameras sticking out on the left of the signs. The first is on the 2nd overhead gantry. The 2nd is on the the lollipop speed sign just before junction 42. Details on overnight closures can be found at http://www.highways.gov.uk/roads/road-projects/m1-junctions-39-42/
Aye, they've not finished that section yet, it's going to open at some point this week. Hour plus journey home tonight.
Also, it's going to take a while to un-program some drivers. Driving south from Leeds, people aren't noticing the national speed limit sign just past junction 39. They're continuing to drive at 50 past where the last yellow camera was. And sticking in the 3rd lane. A couple of times, the last new sign has been turned off. This also indicates that there are no restrictions and you can get back to the national speed limit.
Surley there's no such thing as car hogging in these lanes when the speed limit is restricted and during peak times? everyone's supposed to be going the speed limit, that's the idea isn't it? Same steady stream off traffic and not creating a "Stop - Start" that leads to the jams. I drove parallel with the same three cars all the way through, all going 50mph. I've seen the camera's, lets hope they catch the *******. I was driving 50mph this morning in the 4th lane and some prized executive ***** up my ar*e, I pulled over and off he shot, lets hope it snapped him.
Normal rules apply, it's just a speed restriction that in place. You are suppose to move into the lane to your left if it's free. Rule 264 You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past. Slow-moving or speed-restricted vehicles should always remain in the left-hand lane of the carriageway unless overtaking. You MUST NOT drive on the hard shoulder except in an emergency or if directed to do so by the police, traffic officers in uniform or by signs. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/motorways-253-to-273 Only if there was a sign that said to 'Stay in Lane' would you not move back to the left. Also, the new cameras aren't average speed, but HADECS 3 that scan all 5 lanes from a single camera. http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/hadecs-3.htm
No wonder there is accidents when you think cars should stop in be middle lane when he left hand lane is free Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It ain't going to work if the don't drive at the speed restrictions. Imagine somebody trolling along at 10/20 mph under the limit and holding everything up. I'm yet to see how most of the p*llocks are using it. I read that webpage this morning when l was looking for the southbound opening times. Apparently they are also being used off peak to trap drivers going over 70mph.
I think you've got the wrong end of it mate. I'm meaning when its full during peak times, there's no lane free and everyones bumper to bumper and all the lanes are full so you can't pull over. Like my example this morning, I drove the full length through this morning with the same cars at the side of me, we were all going 50 mph, you'd have to slow down to pull over or break the limit to overtake. It was the same in front of me, same for cars all way through. My pet hate is the pill0cks that don't pull over when the lane is free, they're the ones that cause the jams.
How long did it take you before the work started though? Isn't that the real barometer of success? They shouldn't be congratulated on the fact that it no longer takes an hour and half, if they increased it to an hour and half in the first place..
