Wow, what a treasure that place is. Been today with work. What an amazing setting for a stadium. No frills just a bowl, but easy to imagine what a sight it would be if full Incidentally, the record attendance there –102,569 1954 Challenge Cup Final replay – Halifax vs. Warrington, 5 May 1954. World record rugby league attendance, stood until 6 March 1999
I think we may have played City there back in the 80s after the fire and before they moved back in. I went to a Bulls vs Trinity game there a few years ago. It's a bowl but nothing like the Valley was before that was redeveloped. The side terrace at the Valley felt as high as our East Stand does now.
Ive been a few times to watch Cas Tigers. Soulless bowl with no atmosphere. Without doubt the coldest place I have ever watched sport too.
Didn't Leeds fans set that one on fire too? Sure I've seen footage before, some sick individuals followed them back in the 80s
I too have been to Cas Tigers. We were doing a bucket collection for our Disability Sport Charity. A Castleford fan, dropped a coin in the collection bucket, and then proceeded to shout at a Castleford player "Go on lad, break his f#ckin neck". I kid you not.
I take it you have never been to Grimsby Town during January ? Or Oldham ?? These two, along with Oakwell are the coldest places I have been to watching the Reds
hijacking the thread slightly but oldham away , about 89. we lost 2 nil and wouldn't have scored if we were still playing now. absolutely the coldest ive ever ever been at a football match.
My parents went to that game, my mum passed out in the crush...unofficial estimates of the crowd are far higher than the official.
Don't think we ever played there after the fire. Can certainly remember seeing us playing them at leeds road though...
