Great acting, great production values, great special effects, well shot and directed.

    Absolutely terrible storyline.

Happy to discuss for those interested.

Yours, a very disappointed Star Wars fan tonight.

I know somebody who went and is raving about it, mind he is a Star Wars nut.

Personally I find with most of these overblown things, Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter, Star Wars, there's usually big chunks of boring nothingness ( the bit where I usually nod off) that could be ditched and greatly improve the film.

Adults who are madly into Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, The Matrix, Star Trek...

    They're just a bit weird.

I agree. The first half of it is built on a series of ridiculously improbable coincidences which stack on top of each other. I really enjoyed the last half though, and it felt like proper Star Wars which the prequels didn't.

Why are they? Do you not have any interests that aren't the same as everyone else then?

I'm really looking forward to seeing it, I would've seen it at midnight had it not been for work this morning.

I think I'll avoid this thread now in case of spoilers. I'm having to tread carefully on the internet but I thought I'd be safe on a Barnsley fc forum!

It's got to be better than The Phantom Menace which was about a trade dispute or summat. I'm not sure I watched it all the way through it was so bad and didn't bother with the next two.

I quite like the first three, although I'd only watch them again now if it was with my nephews and nieces. In that respect they're very good. They've stood the test of time quite well, which is difficult for any film, but particularly difficult for science fiction. And they're a children's film that can also engage adults. For that reason I understand why they're still popular. It's the holy grail to get a kids film that adults can enjoy too. But it does surprise me that adults obsess about it. I quite like science fiction. Some of the best films I've seen recently have been from that genre: Gravity, Ex Machina, Interstellar, Predestination, Under the Skin and although Star Wars is enjoyable, I'd put each of those way ahead of it. Just seems odd to me that Star Wars is the one that attracts such devotion.

I don't think people who like such things are weird. What I do find weird is the amount of people who like Star Wars and Lord of The Rings and just how much they like them. Usually, cult films, which these are in terms of subject matter, tend to attract a small but very devoted audience. Star Wars and Lord of the Rings attract an enormous and very devoted audience. To such a point that I'm probably in a minority that I really don't like Lord of the Rings and only like Star Wars as a kids film that is far more tolerable than many. Maybe weird is the wrong word, but it is unusual, although very financially beneficial for all those involved. You can't beat an obsession that appears to attract millions of devotees.

I chose my words carefully - 'madly into'.

I don't mind watching said films for entertainment, although I find them quite boring personally. I'm quite happy for other people to enjoy them. But when you get people quoting the lines, queueing up at midnight to be the first to see it, etc., I think there is something odd about these people.

I mean, you don't get people queueing round the block at midnight waiting to the see the latest Jane Austen adaptation.
It's always the fantasy/sci-fi genre of film that attracts this type.

So, yes, people who are madly into these films are a bit weird.

You can't beat Skyfall for being overblown/ overhyped.

A film where the hero continually fails to protect the people he's supposed to be protecting and is still a legend. Load of old b'll#x

Do you reckon naming a child "Anakin" would be weird? My friend did that.
