I think you have to have imagination to admire these films, those without imagination will always criticise

You need an imagination to read a book, whatever the subject matter. When watching a film you're looking at the realisation of someone else's imagination. You don't need one of your own, it's all presented on the screen for you. You either like it or you don't. You need an imagination to have fun playing with the Star Wars figures afterwards, but not to enjoy the film.

Really? So whist watching a sci fi movie you don't need imagination? I would think you need that imagination to go watch it in the first place, your own imagination has to take you into a world beyond reality otherwise how can you enjoy it? That's how I look at it, you need to get totally absorbed in it, be there yourself. You don't?

Someone else's imagination has done that for you. They've taken the world beyond reality and put it in pictures on the screen. You don't have to imagine it, you can see it. If you can see something, you're not using your imagination. Read Star Wars the book, and you'll need your imagination to make the characters and settings come to life, but watch the film and it's all done for you. You don't have to imagine a galaxy long ago and far, far away, you can see it.

You'll need your imagination to imagine how the characters in the film are feeling, but you need that with all films. I'd argue you'll need it far less in an action adventure like Star Wars than in something much deeper exploring the human condition.

I read Lord of the Rings about 3 times before I saw the movies and TBH the films were a bit of a let down so you may have a point.

A film plays out on a screen in front of you. A book takes place in your own head and you feel the trials and tribulations of the characters so much more because you're going through it with them.

The plot is basically a retread of the first three films, especially the first one so OP has a point.

Really, my missus cannot stand football, she turns to me and says "So you watch grown men chasing a bag of air, with quiffs and wearing shorts. You discuss it on forums, radios, book holidays around it and even watch back the goals you've already seen, bit gay isn't it?"

    I think we're weirder.

Don't be so naïve. Everyone knows the Death Star was an inside job - the Empire had their eyes on Hoth's oil reserves for years and were desperate for an excuse to invade. Do you actually believe that 2 proton torpedoes can blow up a fully operational moon-sized space station? Give me a break, you can see from the footage it was a controlled explosion. Plus don't you find it a bit too convenient that neither Darth Vader or the Emperor were on board when it was destroyed...?
