Ten minutes' worth of effort was all we had today. Players who can't do the basics. They are not true professional footballers and they are cheating a living out of the fans who attend. The manager couldn't build on some potentially promising signs, and has no idea of how to change things when defeat is staring him in the face. Whoever selects the players, whoever picks the team, this is not working. Something has to change or we will have no club in twelve months' time.
I concur, we have had the odd player who didn't try, we have players who weren't good enough but tried. Apart from a select few, we now have a team who don't try and aren't good enough, L2 beckons then non-league, it will never happen? With these monkeys in charge it can happen, and will.
agreed, but this comes down to the manager and his tactics and training... i'd love to know what match videos he watches of teams we are going to play, because its obvious from today that he never picked out the lad on the left wing who ran us ragged all thru the first half without johnson doing anything about it. i really think he is the most incompetent manager we have had since 'whale music' spackman... he changes things too late or nat at all and never seems to combat changes made by other teams
yes, there left wing back had the freedom of Oakwell, 4-4-2 can really struggle with a 5 man midfield, you have to get behind the wing back wide and push through the centre when the centre halves get stretched, problem we have is that only White and Hammill look comfortable on the ball, no on else can trap and pass a ball, switch play pass and move, run into space, its just a joke.
That's letting the players off the hook IMO. No amount of incompetency by management or coaching should stop a very well paid player putting an honest shift in. The fans can judge whether it's tactics or effort or both that is the problem.
My suspicion is this. Lee Johnson was a very competent, possibly sometimes above-average player in the lower leagues and for part of his career in the Championship. He has become bewitched by the coaching courses to the extent that his honest footballing nous has become subjugated to what is fashionable in coaching badge circles. To put it another way, he can't see the wood for the trees. He is learning his job as a manager/head coach/whatever you want to call it. And we are picking up the tab for that. No matter who recruits the players or who picks the team, the head coach has to organise and motivate them. In this, Lee Johnson has failed, and is taking us to a level we haven't been at since 1979. 36 f*****g years. We can not afford this as a club. The owner/hierarchy need to address their minds to this pretty damn soon. If Mourinho can be ditched seven months after winning the league title, why would we stay with a manager who is taking us to Division Four (in old money) oblivion? I'm fickle, by my own admission, but Ben at al, you'll have very little club to preside over soon if you carry on this path.
No doubt we have talented individual players. We need to get someone in who can get them playing fluent football ie. Martinez,Rogers,Monk did at Swansea
