BBC has given its rights to F1 to Channel 4 starting next season soon be no sport left on the BBC at all - then if the the government has its way they will have to start on successful entertainment shows Seems to be the BBC is being dismantled by a death of a thousand cuts http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35149963 http://www.channel4.com/info/press/news/channel-4-becomes-terrestrial-home-of-formula-1
Cutting back on Lineker & Co flying all over the world to present a program which could quite easily be presented from London would be a start on how to save money.
As with a lot of state funded organisations the BBC will be going about this arse about face. They have been promising to stop wasting money and stupid expenses and salaries for years but each year get caught out? How much for instance do they pay Shearer and co on MOTD, its the bit of the show where a hell of a lot of folk pop to the loo or for a drink not listen to them, you can't even use the excuse that you have to pay the money to get the talent, pundits jobs aren't exactly rife and its not like they are brain surgeons. Personally I have to admit to the theory that the BBC is an outmoded institution, other stations manage to produce good stuff in the commercial world so let them have a go, they already give masses of free adverts to firms so let them earn their money. I'm pretty sure their business practices and expense accounts and how many hundreds of folk they seem to think they need at events like Glastonbury for example would get a pretty quick overall then
Agree with MOTD. It's farcical how Lineker et al get paid the fees they do, I tend to record it and fast forward the talking as it's the same things they say week in week out. Would much rather see MOTD used as a vehicle to give young pundits a chance to show their worth like the Channel 5 Football League programme does. What also pisses me off with BBC is things like Radio 1 Big Weekend. There's shitloads of festivals all over the country for people to go to but they decide they need another so get artists in from across the world to perform, they could save a tonne of money on stuff like that and stick to making good programmes.
There is some truth in the above but in their defence I think the govt threw them a curveball this year by forcing the BBC to pay for the free TV licences for over 75's something previously funded by the Government so effectively cutting their income by around 20% hard to come back from that without cutting what you broadcast
I love these types of posts. Basically, you're saying that the BBC shouldn't pay to attract any talent to it's shows & also not cover events of real national & cultural interest. If they stopped doing that & everyone watched Sky for everything then you'd be saying there's no point in the BBC because it doesn't have any content. It can't win.
Why can't we have the choice to pay for the BBC or not. If i subscribe to SKY, but not SKY sports i can't get SKY sports, surely the BBC could do the same.
No I you didn't. But I was making a general point that those who say the BBC should be run better & not spend cash on big events are often those who complain that Sky/BT does things better.
Im fairly certain Big Weekend will pull in more money than they spend. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I actually said they should run the thing like a business and not waste money like with the ridiculous of amount of staff they take to these things, not stop covering them.
How does their coverage differ from ITV or Sky? They have just as many people. It's just the old myth that the private sector is more efficient.
Presenters and summarisers complete waste of money. Linacre & Co, Ant & Dec that stupid little Itie on Strictly, 2 presenters of the One show why? Money down the drain.
As somebody who has to work in the private sector and but has worked in th public I can assure you it aint a myth
The bureaucracy and overheads for the large national and multinational firms in have to deal with are absolutely astronomical. If we could take in house half of the consultancy services we outsource we'd make a killing.
There's no reason for them to be in Brazil to start with, have them in the MOTD studio watching on a tele rather than in Brazil watching on tele. Would cut Lineker's holidays down a fair bit though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
