I started the season before that. Those people who think that the club is at its lowest ebb should have been around then. I hate the phrase "speculate to accumulate", especially when it is applied to a football club. Mr Cryne has been speculating to.... well not to accumulate for much of his time with us. It has got us nowhere. In 1966/67, we basically had a decent team with no forwards at the club. It was clear what the problem was and what was needed to solve it. Football is a much more complex game now and it will need more than £10k to solve our present problems. You may also remember that 4 years later, we were back in the 4th tier and that the eventual solution came about 5 years after that because the hated and abused Jim Iley sold a lot of promising youngsters, and part of that money was used to bring Alan Clarke to the club.
