When things started to get bad...........me and a few others on this message board continued to support LJ. I said at the time that I thought LJ needed at least another 18 months to see what he could do. I also argued that it was ridiculous to continually sack managers. However, at that time I didn't realise that things would get this bad.......it never crossed my mind, that with the level of good players at the club we would be looking at a relegation position by Christmas. I've also heard that Hammill shouted at LJ and Marley Watkins threw an arm out at LJ during the Wigan match. Increasingly it is looking like LJ has lost the dressing room. If he has, then we need to make a change of manager before the January transfer window so a new manager has time to put something together in an attempt to salvage something from this season. My suggestion for a new manager would be Neil Redfern. I don't like the idea of neighbours taking players or managers from their closest neighbours - but in this case Neil has shown that he can do the job in difficult circumstances and he is also a Barnsley legend. Further to this ............Patrick Cryne should double or treble his efforts to find a new owner - and finish the job he initially set out to do. While he remains the owner of the club, the wrong decisions will be made and supporters will vote with their feet and continually drift away from the club. To be honest - I would much rather hear that Patrick Cryne had sold the club than to hear Lee Johnson had been sacked.
I'd rather hear Lee Jay has gone than pat has sold the club be careful what you wish for Pat Cryne has made mistakes he will admit that but he is one of us if things were going right and we were top 6 there would be no pressure on patrick. I just hope he see sense gives Lee Jay the boot Burton and hecky caretakers till end of season. Evaluate in summer and hopefully stones leaves everton and we have some spends for a new defence and a promotion push next season.
'To be honest - I would much rather hear that Patrick Cryne had sold the club than to hear Lee Johnson had been sacked' you have point Mr Y Oungnudger...cos if PC sold the club the new owner would then do the next bit by ousting Mr L Johnson hth
To reiterate.........Patrick Cryne got hold of the club to save it - I personally heard him say, years ago, that he was not there for the long haul and would be looking to sell the club on at the first opportunity. He did a great job saving the club but he has been there now 8, 9 or 10 years (?) and in that time the club has been on a steady decline. If we happened by chance to get back into the Championship then we would be anchored (again) to the foot of the table because PC hasn't enough clout to take the club forward. The biggest problem at Barnsley Football Club is not Lee Johnson. Its Patrick Cryne. It has been suggested on here, and now I'm starting to believe this myself, that Barnsley Football Club is just an expensive HOBBY for Patrick Cryne.
The fact that Redders is a club legend is the very reason why he should never be appointed Barnsley manager. Also I doubt very much whether he would leave Championship Rotherham so soon after joining them to take a job with us.
Cryne stepped in and saved the club, I doubt it's a hobby and clubs like ours are not usually business opportunities. It may be a fact that PC does not have or does not want to pump in the kind of money that's fans want to see spent...but it is in safe hands, we're not in mountains of debt and worrying if the HMRC bill is going to be paid, or waiting for the winding up order to be posted. Look at other clubs in the area, Ryan at Doncaster, McCabe at Sheff. U. the string of chancers they've had at Wednesday. ...no one is any further forward than they were 9 or 10 years ago.. Only Stewart at Rotherham has managed to improve the club and I know that was a close run thing financially, and is more than likely to be unsustainable.
Cryne needs to step away. If not then the club will be left with the merry band of die hards week in week out. That's fine for some but it's not what I or others aspire to
You could be right, but if you're not it could end very badly. It's a leap into the unknown and if the club falls into the hands of the kind of foreign consortium mooted last year, with not the slightest connection or empathy with the town, the club or the fans it could all end in tears. You're assuming that a new owner will fulfill those aspirations..it's a big assumption with very likely no track record to base it on.
Not sure how much mischief a future owner could create at Oakwell. By putting the ground under joint ownership between the Council and Patrick Cryne and, as far as I'm aware, keeping it a separate entity from the Club then Patrick Cryne was very astute. Years ago an owner at Doncaster ran the Club right down and was going to torch Belle Vue as the land the ground stood on was more lucrative than anything he could make from the football side of the venture. If you're going to protect the future of Barnsley FC then protecting the stadium from speculators is a great way to do it. If the sale of the Club is simply the footballing side of the business then this might explain the lack of interest from outside investors. That said if the Council, because of funding cutbacks, decide to offload their share of Oakwell things could get a bit flaky especially if Patrick decided to sell up.
I'd rather lose people with your views from the club than PC. He's ten time the supporter you'll ever be . Patrick will not sell our club to chancers and nobody else wants it what part of that don't you get.?
LJ needs to go. Unless a fairy godfather comes in we have Mr Cryne as our funder & chairman. As we slip down the leagues the club becomes increasingly unattractive to investors. Merry Christmas
Seems the club is worth as much to investors in our current position as it was at our highest position in the last championship campaign. Merry Christmas
A new owner might and could make more errors than the current owner. Anyone who thinks that a change of ownership will suddenly produce better management of the team is clearly suffering from delusions.
Keep sticking up for him! You and the merry band of die hard's are welcome to it. But if a supporter of 38 yrs is contemplating chucking in the towel, and I won't be alone, then something is seriously wrong with the club i support. He may have bailed us out with his coin but when the likes of me and others are thinking of withdrawing our coin then there's only one place were heading. The club needs change and fresh impetus starting with a change of manager. Until that happens then things won't get better. Wake up Mr Marlon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So if he goes (PC) and you stay clubs gonna be ok is it? Whether you withdraw your support or not is irrelevant to me and to some others I suspect. I'm sure the club would!nt want you to but at the same time won't be blackmailed by your rantings. I personally think the club needs a rethink on its strategy but then I havnt put millions of my pounds into it nor have I the football buisness brains nor the info what PC will no doubt be drawing on. Whether he's doing the right thing or not is also irrelevant to me as long as he genuinely believes its for the best as I know deep down the club is as important to him as it is to many other Barnsley fans. If you don't want to spend money watching the fayre on offer ,fine, If you think I'm being hoodwinked by the board thats your opinion and I say your wrong. You support\ not support the club your way and I'll support my way as I've done in the bottom of the fourth div and premiership div.
