Is there anyone on here WITHOUT home insurance?

Or rather who's home isn't covered by insurance?

If not why not?

 

Yeah, I only rent. Got no insurance; no nothing.

If the place burns down, tough. Someone else's problem: I just hope I'm not here at the time.

 

Even those who rent should surely have contents insurance when you consider that you can get it for less than a quid a week. I wonder if it is a requirement that landlords have buildings insurance

 

What about contents insurance for everything you own?

 

Never thought about it. Don't really care, to be honest. It's only 'stuff'. I don't own very much, anyway. If it burns, it burns. I can replace it.

 

I thought it might be but wasn't sure. I was just thinking about the flooding and the fact that Facebook is full of people saying we need to spend money helping the victims.

Without wanting to appear mean and selfish, I don't see why we should need to pay for their losses. I have a great deal of sympathy with their emotional loss and the difficulties they are facing but financially I have to say not so much

 

Really? For the sake of about a quid a week I'd be getting it insured because if anything did happen it would be a hell of a lot of money to spend replacing everything

 

*shrug* Well, that's my view. Don't know what else to say.

 

When I got a mortgage other year we were not allowed to move in until we got building insurance

You could argue that house prices are cheaper in those areas. If they'd have put that saved money away from the cheap house price, they'd be able to pay for the repairs themselves.

I know I was the one to have brought insurance up (in the other thread) but I don't have contents insurance. We've got nowt worth nicking/ruining. I'd be a bit gutted about replacing my clothes but other than that we don't really own owt in the house. I suppose I should if it's as cheap as you say but I've never looked into it. When we buy our own house with our own things we will get it (I know we have to have buildings as a minimum to get a mortgage anyway).

 

Is your house rented furnished then? I didn't really think about that possibility

 

Yeah, rented fully furnished. Most student houses are (we got it in my final year and then stayed here). It's kind of a weird place as we were the first students in it as our landlord and wife lived in it previously and had just converted it to maisonettes to rent out. It's not really a typical 'student' house.

 

Me, no chance of floods here, burglaries almost non existent, rent the house and furniture from ikea.

 

me. i own the house but hardly owt worth nicking any more. it was alll nicked from my last house and the insurance didnt cover it- i didnt have a burgular alarm. i dont see the point anymore. im not going to get flooded, MIGHT have a fire so i suppose i should get it. its just more money to shell out that i will never see again
