5th for assists this season with 6. one behind the most assists too... But he doesnt do owt so lets sell him
He's done well enough for me. If we compare him with Keith Treacy for example he's been a reight signing.
Would have been one more had hammil finished that chance 1st half he set up for him. To be fair to hammil decent save from there keeper.
He's one of those deceptive players. He can look like an ungainly, non-league standard player at times while at others he is effective. I was hoping he would go off yesterday when the sub was made to bring on Williams. Yes, he scored a decent enough goal but I didn't notice him much apart from that. And yes, he did provide some good passes, and has been doing all season, to set up scoring chances. I think he is one of those unsung hero kind of players - the ones who don't stand out much and yet the team can't do without them. I WANT to like Marley. I have been wanting to like him all season. Occasionally I see something and think "yes, good player". Like so many others though he is learning at this level so it would be harsh to judge him this season. We could have a cracking player in a year or two. I think we can safely say he isn't a winger. Perhaps he and SSW can forge a winning partnership up front. He could save us a lot of money if he repeats yesterday's performance next week and carries it on over the next few games. I acknowledge the praise that many have given him since yesterday and promise to take off my "anti-Marley" blinkers next week.
I rated him at ICT and was really pleased we signed him. Have to say I have enjoyed watching him and I believe his contribution is clear. However I think he is in the shadow of players like Conor and Sam so I can see why some people would see him as unnoticed. I think the stats prove what I see, which is he contributes positively as much if not more than most on a regular basis.
Thought Kane Hemmings were better and that sez it all. Sorry but he doesn't do owt for me and people can quote stats till they are blue in the face.
I acknowledge your view on him and that's obviously fair enough but one thing I will say is when was the last time you saw close ball control and composure like that in the box from one of our strikers? You could say McCourt's against Boro and he wasn't a striker. What I like about him is he shows glimpses of real quality like that goal and he couples it with hard work and never stops shutting down their defenders. He'll grow on you i'm sure once he gets a run up front. He's perfect for Winnall.
I ignore statistical information. As I said, I WANT to like him but often find myself groaning when he runs down another cul de sac or wastes a ball, but then we shouldn't expect too much of him yet. He's not alone in that though - Hammill did the same often yesterday. I love watching him play but he had his most frustrating game for us yesterday, probably. He just tries to do too much sometimes but when it does come off what a joy to watch! That outrageous bit at the Ponty End touchline late on yesterday definitely warrants playing over and over when the full match comes up on Player (IF it does!). I just want to see what he did to get past (was it two players?). As anyone who ever reads my match reports will know I am not one for criticising our players without reason. I will criticise poor play but would rather support the player while ever he has a red shirt on. Watkins, for me, is still unproven. Of course he does good things - all of them do, sometimes - but he is still learning how to play in the English league. He'll get better, but he's not there yet for me.
Like the majority of our players this season he's been very inconsistent. Yesterday he was great. More of that.
PoR, i think he has been one of our better signings. He wastes the ball fewer than most but can hold it up. His form will drift in and out as it has with everyone. We can find strengths and weaknesses in all our (and anyones) players in this league. However i like his attitude, workmate and believe he has some good skill and has a selfless approach which is why i think his assists are whats putting him on the map. A few people are waiting to be impressed, but for me i have seen enough to value his contribution and be entertained by his performances.
I agree that many have been inconsistent, of late, sam has been able to trap a ball further than i can kick it, but found his form again yesterday. Watkins was great in the Millwall game, S****horpe away and a few others i can mention. However while ever the entire team are underperforming he won't stand out to many. I think he fits our team well and his deft touches will hopefully bring even more chances as the team starts to gell more.
I think he has done ok. Started well then had quite a severe loss of form before and after his injury and should have been rested but came back to play well yesterday. Consistently inconsistent like the rest.
Are you ignoring the stats because they prove you wrong? In response to the OP. I like Marley, although his performances have gone downhill as the season has gone on. I think he had a decent game yesterday, but by no means a blinder. Now we seem to have several players capable of delivering, I'd like to see him back up front alongside Sam as he was yesterday. With Hammill, Isgrove, Pearson, Hourihane, White and even Williams all capable of supplying a killer ball, I think he might start scoring on a more regular basis, because I do believe he has goals in him.
