The Mrs, in her well intentioned and thoughtful way, went to a butchers in mansfield and bought me some tomato sausages to have on new years day breakfast. Quite possibly the worst tomato sausages I've ever had, yes they looked handmade (by the fact that none of the 6 looked alike… one was about 8inch long, and one just 2 inch) but they were full of air holes, had very little fat (the fat that then i can fry an egg in and have a red coloured tomato flavoured egg), were lacking in all seasoning and tasteless!! So my question to you this morning, from an expat living in derbyshire/notts border area, and who is coming to the match on Saturday… Where can i pick up the BEST tomato sausage from?? thanks & Happy New Year!!
pop into Hoyland... there is a butchers top side of Higg's Chippy he does cracking sausages of all kinds
I'm from penistone, there the ones i remember from growing up!! i am going to get my sister to pick me some up, but wanted to see if there are any better ones that people know of!!
Re: pop into Hoyland... there is a butchers top side of Higg's Chippy Closed down now Baz. Chris retired about three years ago, new bloke took it over but due to other factors - Tesco opening on Market Street school site being one, and the rest of the town centre dying on it's asre, he closed the shop down earlier this year
Never been in. Don't like how the guy there learned all about the business as an apprentice type at Schofields and then opened up a rival business spitting distance away. Some will think all is fair in business but it doesn't seem right to me basically wanting to steal customers off the guy who taught you the trade about 20 yards away.
I buy my tomato sausage from Ray's Butchers in Wath....Beautiful..He does a Thick or a Thin link, personally I prefer the thin!
The important thing I've learnt from this thread is that either I am the weird one or there are a lot of fancy posh *******s on here who aren't happy with a proper sausage. ******* tomato sausage. What next? Garlic bread?
