'The roast of...' A series of supposed comedy shows in America where a group of famous people gather in a room to insult and abuse another and not one funny comment between them

I'm with you on this.... the new US so-called comedies. All shout, noise and unintelligible garbage.
The best sit com out of the USA is, or rather was, Phil Silvers as Bilko. Still watch it and still find it very funny.

I agree re American Humour - sadly it just ain't funny.

I also have a problem with American novels - to my mind they're best avoided even the Mailer, Vidal ones.

Larry David is a genius. As are Parker & Stone. Modern Family is outstanding. Obviously there's also a very long list of brilliant American stand-up, sketch & sitcom writers throughout the years. I don't think we're in a position to talk, when we have Michael McIntyre, Russell Kane and Mrs. Brown's Boys flying the flag. Which are fcukin appalling.

Different people have different tastes - I like a lot of American humour - grew up with the likes of Bilko, Cheers, MASH , Frasier even Happy Days and Mork and Mindy. Kept me entertained but also liked classic British comedies and comedians. Doubt Americans would get Ardal O'Hanlon but I love his stand up ...

That's a different kettle of fish. Their sitcom style comedy is far better than their standup comedy

Off the top of my head

    US Produced Comedy Shows
Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Louie, Community, Parks & Recreation, Seinfeld, Flight of the Conchords, Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Friends, The Office US, South Park, Scrubs, Malcolm In The Middle, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Archer, Bob's Burgers

    US Comedians
Doug Stanhope, Louis CK, George Carlin, Dave Chappelle, Mitch Hedberg, Bill Hicks, Jim Gaffigan, John Mulaney, Aziz Ansari, Sam Kinison, Bill Burr, David Cross, Sarah Silverman

If you don't think there's anything of merit in any of those shows or comedians then its objectively a viewer error.

Had a few people recommend The Goldbergs to me so started watching it over the past week. Fast becoming one of my favourite comedies ever.

    What have we got?

Citizen Khan, Mrs Brown's Boys, Still Open All Hours.

It's British comedy that's not funny anymore.

My favourite sitcoms at the moment are Episodes and Catastrophe, a British/US mix and a British/Irish/US mix. A couple of my favourite stand up comedians on the circuit are Doug Stanhope and Louis CK, while my favourite of all time is probably Bill Hicks - all American. There's no doubt there's some **** produced in the USA, but there's some real quality too. Just like here.

It's all about taste and opinion and all that and we're supposed to respect one another's in these enlightened times, but it's gone on long enough now, Mrs Brown's Boys is ******* awful and all those responsible for it should be ****** and burned. That's my opinion which should be respected.

At last. Thought it was just me - everyone I know seems to think it's hilarious. I need to move away or something.

I got threatened with Mrs Brown's Boys on Christmas Day. I'd been drinking so couldn't drive so threatened to walk all the way back to York if it was mentioned ever again.
