Just checked his stats and it's actually 7 in 62! Will we ever see a player with an eye for goal like Lineker? Doubtful unfortunately.
If you can't see what Winnall brings to the team...I'm just lost for words. Just put player on and watch the last two games as good examples, but only watch Winnall..the number of lay offs, knock downs, flick ons etc etc not to mention the miles he puts in and he scores goals too.
You can't possibly say that for certain Phil. As an out and out goalscorer Linekar was the best and while he wasn't a track back player he would still be one of the best strikers in the world.
As well as his phenomenal finishing record Lineker was globally renowned for his off-the ball movement, ability to create space for both himself and team-mates and being a constant thorn in the side of any back four. Thought Winnall was pretty darned good today, popped up everywhere, good goal, brilliant assist and kept three Millwall gorillas occupied all game, including the number three who must have taken about 90% of Sam's shirt home with him having been allowed to man-handle him all afternoon with impunity from the ultra weak officials. It's Hammill's wing play, his inter-linking with SSW and Sam's goals that will keep us up or better, not the improving but limited Watkins.
''As an out and out goalscorer Linekar was the best'' There current forwards would eat him for breakfast Messi Barca 425 plus more goals for Argentina Neymar at 23 hes scored 200 plus carer goals plus hes only 2 behind at international level. Suarez, hes at 274 carer goals and hes scored 43 at international level. They have between 5/10 years left too.
Just as a comment to that, and certainly not knocking Messi, if you consider that the World Cup finals are the highest level of football, Lineker scored twice as many goals (10 in 12 games) in two World Cups, as Messi has in three (5 in 15 games).
Left more content today than I have in a long time! I try to not get involved in Barnsley chat on here because I end up getting slated as a happy clapper so prefer to just read it but wow! I for one never in a million years expected Johnson to still be in the job come January never mind be entering January looking half OK (11th) in the form table. I definitely wanted him gone but now I'd like to see what happens with the rest of the season. Fair play to anyone that can go through a run of losses like that, fans all wanting you sacked, players not playing for you and come out with plucky resilient and at times exciting performances. All is not well at the club but it feels a damn sight more well than it did 3 weeks ago. Long may it continue!
Couldn't disagree more. Rhodes is a fantastic all round striker who has been carrying a poor team for years. He had prem offers before choosing B'Burn. Anyway there have been countless of these come alive in the box type strikers who have played at the very top-Klose, Van Nistelrooy, Henry and Soldado just to name a few. Finally to say Winnall does nothing for the team is just ridiculous. Scoring goals and assists is doing something for the team and you can't fault his workrate & commitment.
Even better I'll reserve judgment til we see what team we're left with end of January obviously but I'm feeling good for now
At club level most weeks the Spanish trio are playing in a very uncompetitive league. Messi in particular has not done particularly well in top international tournaments. Generally though I would agree they are more complete players than Lineker or Van Nis or Klose but at the same time Klose has shown himself to be the most effective international forward in the modern era. All this misses the point being made there are all types of players with all types of abilities all of which can offer something that no one else can. Winnall offers that to us. He can't be replaced. I like Watkins as a target man but he could be replaced easily enough.
Grafted their nads off today. That wasn't a team not playing for their manager. If we can keep that up for the rest of the season, we'll finish comfortably top half. Pearson leaves a big hole for me. January window is another big one and I can't imagine anything but more loans Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Everyone did. I wasn't really commenting on yesterday in this post with the negatives. The pressing at times was really good and at one point all Barnsley fans applauded when they got it back to their goalkeeper.
Zero for the team, zero? It's impossible to conclude that a striker who scored a goal and assisted another in a match did zero for the team. Well, unless you're a wum or a bit daft of course.
He can't like all our players. One has to be Bobby Hassell, and shock/horror it's fan favourite Sam Winnall, who has songs in his honour.
The Spanish league is nothing near like as competitive as it was when Lineker played there. The amount of goals Messi has scored is embarrassing. He's undoubtedly a great player but ought to test himself in a league with actual competition rather than the Spanish joke league.
