What do we need this window? I would expect at least one central midfielder and two strikers. It would be nice to get Pearson and Toney back until the end of the season. What are your thoughts.
Try to sign White. a couple of forwards. Two central midfielders Sort out Wabara, Isgrove, Long and/or replace. In an ideal world we would be adding further strength and experience throughout the team.
I'd go for four players through the spine of the team (goalkeeper, centre half, central midfielder, striker). But I haven't the foggiest idea which players would fit the bill.
Providing no one else leaves then a bare minimum requirement as I see it ; CDM - ideally sign Pearson! That'd be a brill one for me. Knows the town/club and now the division. Not the finished article but in L1 you'd be hard pressed to get better that's available. No brainer for me. Hope it happens. CM - an experienced 'Scowen' type to play and be in around the team/squad when required and help the young lads aswell. Can't recommend anyone that fits our recruitment criteria but someone in the Lawrence/Kevin Richardson/Blackmore type CF - a good version of Smith/Wilkinson!!! Toney?!?!? Mmm not sure. Gotta have experience for me. How old is Paul Wilkinson now???? RB - not his biggest fan but a 6.5/7 -10 most weeks. Get Wabara tied down. Sign Aidy White - looks tidy Offside this one! Mason Holgate?!? Not even on bench today. Could play JPT, knows all lads. Loan til end of season. I'd take that.
Assess Long when his loan expires. Sign White on a permanent ASAP. None of the other loanees have been have consistent enough so don't bother with em. Then I'd say we need a targetman striker, a pacey striker, a CDM, a CM and an experienced commanding CB.
Good shout actually about Holgate, if we cant tie him down to a deal get Holgate in to rotate with Bree.
Matty Taylor from Bristol Rovers. 60 games and 31 goals. Very good return imo. Josh Windass from Accrington. 49 games and 16 goals from midfield. His Dad was decent too. Kemar Roofe doing pretty well this season for Oxford.
Good suggestions. Roofe would be a fantastic signing. I would go for Akinde who has 43 goals in 1 and a half seasons for Barnet. I'd also suggest Reuben Reid, Jay O'Shea and Dominic Poleon who gets no service at Oldham.
I'd love to see an experienced keeper come in who can marshal his defenders, tell people where they need to be at set pieces and install some confidence when it comes to leaving his line to collect big punts into the box. Davies is a good young keeper but not quite there in many respects just yet. Hopefully Wabara and White will extend their deals. I'm not convinced on Long. He's no better a footballer than Lewin for me, but with the dreadful lack of confidence the latter seems to be suffering from at the minute, we could do worse than keep Long and see whether he can build a partnership with Mawson. Central midfield depends on a few things. How long is Scowen going to be out for? Will Hourihane be sold? Is there any chance we can get Pearson back? At the moment, we need to replace Pearson, and it looks as though it will have to be a new addition with him unlikely to return. An old(er) head who is vocal, can pick a pass and put a tackle in is what would be ideal, but perhaps hard to come by. If we're going to have Hourihane/Scowen available, that will be enough. Isgrove has been hit and miss. Wouldn't be against keeping him, but if there's someone better out there we should explore the option of replacing him. He's just keeping that spot warm for Ryan Williams anyway IMO. Two strikers would be nice, but if the right people aren't available it might be better to save our cash til the summer, bring one in, and look to the loan market in case of emergency (cue abuse!!). I'd prefer someone with either a physical presence or pace, preferably both. Reuben Reid as some have mentioned would be a great shout. Marc Richards might fit the bill if he were willing to return? Alex Revell's loan's up at Wigan this month. Stevie May I've always liked, not getting a game at Preston.
May is out for the rest of the season through injury, he was a regular for Preston until that happened. Sent from my thl 5000 using Tapatalk
I get the impression that all the effort and trying has fallen short and we need to move on. I don't know, but reading the Pearson messages from the club over past 6 month seems like we have been constantly trying. Hope I'm wrong and there's a bit of a diversion in our messages recently but we will know in the next week or two. I would like to see as a Minimum:- striker. Ideally a Waring type but more experience. Someone who can work the defence, draw fouls and hold the ball up. Not necessarily a starter but last 20 mins can contribute or be a different option. Minimum we need one but given Marley injury and Jackson and loanees gone maybe two. Centre Mid. We need another 1 as defensive midfielder. A natural centre mid experienced or solid in the holding position. We need someone we know can play 90 mins week in week out. Again given the Pearson thing and Scowan injury one is a bare minimum needed. I'm ok with defence if we keep Wabara, Long and White to the season end.
