Then why on earth aren't we grooming him to be one for us?

Seems very strange that he plays for England youth, Man Utd took him on trial and now the best second tier manager in the country has taken him on loan, yet every time he's put on a Barnsley shirt he's been appalling.

Something is hugely wrong here! Anyone got any ideas?

    No idea.

I think people see potential in his footballing ability but has looked lost the last couple of times I've seen him. It'll be make or break for him soon.

Maybe as Flicker once said, "he's lost footballing intelligence" - whatever that is.

I'd trust Mick's judgement on a player more than anyone involved at Oakwell. If he thinks there's a player there then there probably is.

Was outstanding in the 5-0 thrashing of Rochdale and looked very promising when he first broke into the team. Maybe booting him out of the team for 3 months whenever he had a poor game or made a mistake was stalling his development? Maybe being heckled and ridiculed by our fans was crushing his confidence? Just a thought.

Idiot? Really? How do you know he's good enough for Ipswich? He's not kicked a ball for them yet. Signing for a Club is no guarantee that you're good enough for them. Look at the $hite that we've signed over the years.

For all you know, he'll be absolute gash for them and end up playing non-league. Mick McCarthy isn't a God. He also signed Frank fcukin Noble.

He has been sent there to work under other coaches who can dedicate more time to more players so he may come back a better player and not guaranteed to leave

I can't complain about this one. I happen to believe there's a player in Diggers, but we've not seen much of it for the last couple of years. I don't believe he's the sort of player we require in midfield. And I don't think we're in need of another young centre half, especially one learning the position. So for me a move makes sense. For us and Paul. I've been saying it for ages, that if we're not going go to give him an opportunity (like RNL) then let him move on and start afresh. I wish him all the best and hope he turns out to be England material. I'm sure the club will have sell on clauses etc inserted into any permanent deal.

At least they won't have to bullsh1t us with the "we didn't know how good he was" excuse if he makes it. They can just come straight and say "well, we thought he was ***** so let him go for nowt and due to confidentiality clauses we can't what the sell on clause was, if one actually exists."

Do you mean in the 13 minutes for which he was on the pitch in that match?

Would hate to see him go - glad its only a loan - there's a real player in there waiting to be seen.

It probably just needs a change of scenery with a loan deal to make that happen

Lacking in confidence in my opinion. People jumping on his back everything he makes a mistake doesn't help.

I would wager that he's not from what iv seen of him with us. Time will tell.

On a personal level I hope he does well at Ipswich, I hoped he would do well with us but for various reasons it wasn't to be.

Maybe we should revisit that statement in about 25 years, when Lee Johnson has the same amount of experience that Mick McCarthy currently has. Here are some comparison stats between the two, from the start of their respective careers..

    McCarthy (Millwall, 92-96) P203 W74 D70 L59 Win% 36.45
    Johnson (Oldham & Barnsley, 13-16) P148 W52 D43 L53 Win% 35.45

Are they so massively different? McCarthy stayed in his first job for 4 years while he cut his teeth, with a win ratio marginally better. Johnson doesn't even have 50 games under his belt with us, and you want him out. Actually, you probably wanted him out after about 35 games.

    Wrong!

I didn't want him in in the first place. Remind me of his formidable track record that attracted us to him ?

What was McCarthy's formidable track record before he was given the Millwall job? What was his formidable track record at Millwall after 4 years, which resulted in him getting the RoI job, and going on to be the fantastic manager that you now rightly say he his?
