Sad news. Bowie is a true legend of music and will always be with us through the music he has left us with. RIP David.

    Very sad.

Very much a part of my teenage years.

The word icon is bandied around far too easily, but in this case it is highly appropriate.

    Gutted.

Like someone else said, a true icon and individual in a world where superlatives are thrown around too easily

Yeah, didn't see that coming. Didn't even realise he was battling cancer. Shocked. Not many true music icons left. When I look what's out there, it makes me wonder where the next set are coming from.

I wonder if they'll keep his dead hair for making up underwear

I'll always associate Bowie with some great nights in the Crazy Dazy in Sheffield in the 70's

A unique talent, brilliant musician and performer!

Will be a huge loss to the music industry.

    RIP David.

You may have gone but your music will live forever, unlike some of the tripe on offer today!!

Oh no... I can't remember the last time I've been so devastated about the death of someone that I don't personally know. I really wasn't expecting this, even though there had been rumours about his ailing health around - Bowie was just one of those people that I thought would live forever. I've liked his music since I was a little kid (it was only later until I really got into his music though) and for me he'll always be the the coolest musician that there has ever been. Quite possibly the best musician too... What a legend! I'm listening to Space Oddity right now and feeling so incredibly sad.

The stars look very different today...

    This fcking hurts. :(
