Firstly...........we need an explanation from the club to explain why the manager and coaches spent time and effort developing Pearson and then at the end of it all, when they had eventually started to see a proper player, they let him go to another club for just £100K. Is it because: 1) Pearson wanted to go to a Championship club? I cant see Pearson walking straight into the Preston first team unless they are short of midfielders at the moment. But he is definitely one for the near future. 2) Barnsley would not offer Pearson the wages he would get at Preston. If its 'option 2' then we are in a serious position - we didn't pay competitive wages the last time Barnsley was in the Championship - hence the reason we got relegated. If we are not able to pay the wages of young upcoming players that will lift us out of this division then we may as well settle back and realise that Barnsley Football Club will not go forward while the present directors are in charge. In saying that, on the other hand.........there is always the chance that we may not have finished sliding backwards.
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl We never matched Championship wages in the Championship so we're not going to pay them in LG 1
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl Almost certainly No 2). Ben Mansford said when we were relegated that we had gone from being a £10M business to being a £5M one. Stands to reason we can't match Preston (mid-table, Championship) for wages. Ben P has done a decent enough job for us while he's been here. I wish him well.
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl I honestly don't understand the clamour for 'statements from the club' every time something that fans don't like happens. No other clubs issue statements for similar issues so why would we? In reality Pearson has probably seen a better opportunity than we can offer at this moment in time, for more money, in a higher division. There is literally zero the club can do about that under the current loan policy we employ. Even if agreements are in place with parent clubs to sign at the end of loans you can't force a player to join the club against their wishes. Players are happy to go out on loan to clubs that they'd have no intention of joining permenantly at the end of that period for a multitude of reasons as they know there is a definitive end date.
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl But we aren't in the championship, and paying championship wages in League 1 doesn't make a great deal of business sense. It could perhaps be justified if we thought there was a good chance we were going to get promoted this season, but we know that this won't happen. That means that we would be committing to paying him a wage that, for at least 18 months, would not be commensurate with the league we are in.
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl We didn't let pearson go anywhere. Manchester United did As for the rest, and this is just my own opinion, i dont personally believe that the asking price or wages were the problem. It is probably more to do with him not wanting to commit to a club that has not only stagnated but will , in my opinion, never move forward until the current manager is moved on.
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl Its a travesty we are developing players like Pearson for some other club to reap the benefits because we can't compete financially or were classed as an unattractive proposition to join on a permanent basis. You are correct Nudger in the fact it may become worse and it is sadly because of the policies implemented by our board are failing from season to season. Nothing changes apart from the fact of dropping even lower down the division. Many of the good folk on this forum appear frightened of change. I say embrace it with open arms and try and stop the rot. No guarantees it would be successful i admit but are we that scared of a change ? I find it incredulous that some on here are happy to puddle along as we are doing thinking that the good times are just round the corner once again. With this regime its more of the same i'm afraid!
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl Ask yourself the question as to why were not in the Championship any more? Who's to blame ? Where did it all go wrong? The answers all point in one direction and not the one with Mr Styles in !!!
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl He was never our player so therefore the football club owes the fans no statement.
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl I think there is a real chance of us sliding backwards, we are out of the bottom four through two home wins, Millwall was a bonus but we would normally be expected to beat Blackpool at home. Next we have an away game against another struggler, but our recent form against struggling teams is horrible, then Rochdale at home which will not be easy followed by two tough away games at Bradford and Swindon, its possible that we can only collect 3 points from those four games which would most likely drop us back into the bottom four. Plus no real moves in the market yet. And that's another point, we are linked to a couple of players apparently but so are other clubs, and if they had a choice would they want to come to Barnsley with the present league position and bad manager. They could be playing in the fourth tier next season with us. It's a horrible situation where you can't attract any decent players, hence back to the loans....
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl The club owes the fans a statement regarding the progress of Mr Cryne's decision to exit and the time frame this decision is going to take. Of course assuming that the Facebook account of PC is genuine. Still can't get my head round why such an important statement is posted on social media rather than official channels. Seems unprofessional to me but thats only my personal view. Others may think its par for the course
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl As I've said in another thread, Ben Pearson almost certainly didn't decide at the final whistle of the Millwall game he wasn't staying, and he or his agent should have informed the club in advance. My question again is why wasn't a replacement in place, and I don't mean Brad Abbott.
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl Why do the club have to make a statement about a player who doesn't belong to us?
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl You must be a retard if you genuinely think that is Patrick Cryne on Facebook.
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl Well that makes Cryne a retard then, he's even told me in person it is him.
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl Statement this... Statement that... Its most likely we did our best to try and sign him but the lad opted Preston as its closer to home and they maybe offered better wages. Who even cares? We missed out, move on. Why do we need a statement exactly? If every time we missed out on a player the club had to release a statement there'd be hundreds of statements a season. Get a grip man.
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl Thats funny then cos hes told me the exact opposite!!
Re: All this guessing on here about....Pearson........we need a statement from the cl We don't need a statement he had a better offer and took it. What we need to do Is abandon the daft loans policy. We had looked at Pearson and should have either signed him permanently or moved on in the summer.
We shouldn't be in a position where loans are the cornerstone of our team. They should be brought in when we have injuries.
