Before just adding this post to the bottom of the original post where its likely to get buried - I consider this topic to be of importance so I thought I would start a new thread and answer some of the questions posed on that original thread. The reason we need a statement from the club regarding the Pearson transfer is this......... Its not actually Ben Pearson per se why the statement is required. Its the circumstances surrounding the Ben Pearson transfer which requires clarification from the club - that statement will then make it more clear to the PAYING CUSTOMERS of Barnsley Football Club what direction the directors are taking the club in. Some have said that Ben Pearson wasn't our player. Well we didn't own him, but Pearson had 6 months of time and effort spent on him by the club, the club manager and the club coaches. In that 6 months Barnsley Football Club built Ben Pearson into a much better player. In all of that time; surely the manager would have been able to convince him that his future would be better served at Barnsley. And even though the manager has expressed his admiration for Ben Pearson as a player and a person - Ben Pearson has still moved to another club. Why? He either wanted to play in the Championship, or, we couldn't afford his wages. Which ever way it was then we have problems. But if its the later then we are in trouble. Because Ben Pearson, being a relatively young guy, will not have been expecting to receive an average Championship wage. His wages are going to be relatively low for a Championship player. So the point is this..........why spend 6 months of the clubs time and effort to develop a young player, if at the end of it all the club is not willing to pay relatively low wages for a youngster that has obviously (as he signed for Preston) got Championship qualities? So its not really about Ben Pearson why we need the statement..........its about the general direction of the club with regard to developing young loan players. And as for the club providing that statement - it is the duty of every business to keep their PAYING CUSTOMERS happy. Just because football clubs have traditionally treated their fans with contempt in the past - doesn't mean that Barnsley Football Club has to follow that trend now. As things stand at Barnsley Football Club the PAYING CUSTOMERS are generally unhappy - and many have shown this unhappiness by voting with their feet. We need a statement to say why Ben Pearson left. And that statement should provide further information on the strategy Barnsley Football Club has adopted on its recruitment of young loan players.
He's not our player We have no control over what football club he wants to play for Ben Mansford has said on more than one occasion since Pearson departure that Ben felt his future was elsewhere. His heart was here but his head was telling him something different. Ben Pearson was a good player that this club needed at the time we signed him, I think the only players as good in midfield are Hourihane and Scowen, both of which were playing in the same midfield at the time. Re: The reason we need a statement from the club regarding Pearson transfer, is this. Christ on a bike. We don't need any club explanation. It's all pretty obvious and been said by various sources. Mountain out of a molehill. I really rate Ben Pearson (others don't), and I think we stood a better chance of success over the last 12 months having him learn his trade with us than elsewhere.
Re: The reason we need a statement from the club regarding Pearson transfer, is this. Surely the answer is quite simple that a player was offered championship football over league one. 9 out of 10 players would select the same I am sure. I'm sure theres nothing sinister about the whole thing or even wage related, purely to play at a higher level. Pearson must hold BFC in some regard as I'm sure I read somewhere that he put in a good word for Fletcher to come here. Not sure what statement you need to see. I would have been concerned should Pearson have moved to say Doncaster or Fleetwood etc as at the moment they are our main competitors for players. As soon as a club with championship status comes in for a player, like I say above for 9 out of 10 it's a no brainer.
Let me explain to you. 1. Ben Pearson chose to go to Preston because they offered him more money and they play in a higher league.
Re: The reason we need a statement from the club regarding Pearson transfer, is this. Said very slowly in a loud clear voice, like you're speaking to a six year old or someone who doesn't speak English.
Re: The reason we need a statement from the club regarding Pearson transfer, is this. The Ben Pearson thing has been done to death and explained numerous times above so I'll leave that alone. 2 points I would pick up on though: 1. Are paying customers really voting with their feet? Season ticket sales were average despite the division. We average a very consistant number at home and when there was an offer on we sold over 11500. Doesn't look like people are staying away. You get the usual drama Queens 'I'm not going ever again while this clown is in charge but save me a ticket for Wembley' but that's the same at every club. In terms of a statement regarding transfer policy and strategy. That's just financial suicide. Clubs either won't loan us players OR will charge us a premium for the privilege because they know there will be no deal in place at the end of the loan spell.
Re: The reason we need a statement from the club regarding Pearson transfer, is this. There's something you're just not getting Nudger. Every single player at every single Championship club, who has been signed rather than come through the youth system, will be on significantly higher wages than every player at Barnsley. At least double the amount, often much, much more. Even the younger players like Ben Pearson. This does not mean we are in big trouble. We are not a Championship club. We do not receive the same sponsorship or TV revenue as Championship clubs. We can't, therefore, offer the same of sort of wages. We simply cannot compete. However, we can compete with clubs in this division. It's not just the case of players at Championship clubs being on significantly higher wages than those at Barnsley, they're on significantly higher wages than players at every League 1 club, with the possible exception of Wigan who still receive Premier League parachute payments. If a Championship club is interested in a player, no club in this league can compete with the wages offered. Even if the Championship club offers wages at the bottom end of their pay scale, it's significantly higher than the top end of the pay scale for League 1 clubs. That's why we had to get rid of everyone who was at the club when we were relegated. Only Nyatanga survives who accepted much reduced terms when his contract expired. If a player is only attracting interest from other League 1 clubs, then we can compete and if it's just down to wages there's a good chance we'll get him. If we win promotion then we will be able to compete with some Championship clubs again. We'll receive the extra income and be able to offer higher wages again. We'll not have the same financial clout as those with parachute payments, we'll not necessarily offer the highest wages, but we'll be able to offer the kind of money some Championship standard players will accept. Right now we can't, and you've just got to accept that. It doesn't need another statement from the club to address that as they've made it clear time and again. But it doesn't matter that we can't compete financially with Championship clubs; we're not competing against them at football either. We're competing against League 1 clubs and our finances can match or beat the majority of them allowing us to offer similar or higher wages.
Re: The reason we need a statement from the club regarding Pearson transfer, is this. "We are not a Championship club." Why ? Who is to blame ? What is our best option to try and regain Promotion back to that league ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEstgTAXyec
Re: The reason we need a statement from the club regarding Pearson transfer, is this. It's not the reason Ben Pearson signed for Preston that's the issue it's the fact that it exposes the major flaw in the Clubs recruitment policy. A flaw that many supporters pointed out in the summer. The loan players are not ours they can go were they want, fair enough if they don't meet expectations we can say thanks but no thanks but if like Pearson they perform well we are faced with their agents hawking them round clubs better placed than we are. So we spend 6 months polishing a rough diamond for the parent club to profit from while stifling our own youngsters by blocking their path to the first team. The major issue for me is the club seem blind to this and are set to continue with a policy that benefits everybody but Barnsley FC
Re: The reason we need a statement from the club regarding Pearson transfer, is this. That still wouldn't do it!
Re: The reason we need a statement from the club regarding Pearson transfer, is this. Correct my friend
Re: The reason we need a statement from the club regarding Pearson transfer, is this. Do what exactly ?
Re: The reason we need a statement from the club regarding Pearson transfer, is this. What is the current fascination with crying out for statements from the club?
Totally agree with Jay.. and we are not a championship club 'cos we simply cannot compete anymore at that level , its just that simple.
Re: The reason we need a statement from the club regarding Pearson transfer, is this. Did we not benefit from Ben Pearson playing 45+ games for us over the last 12 months? We didn't benefit as much as we could have done, but all this bulls*t and hysteria about it not benefitting Barnsley FC is getting a bit tiresome. This isn't someone who came and played 12 games in three months and moved on. If Danny had performed better, and if Johnson had performed better, Ben Pearson's time at the club could have seen us being much more successful, which in turn would have brought better attendances, better resources, and made us a much more appealing to potential new signings ......... had he chosen to move on this January like he has done. If things had panned out differently he might have rejected Championship wages and signed for us permanently. Because we've been pretty awful for the majority of our time in League One people aren't seeing the benefit of having a player of his ability for a full season. Alternatively, some people just think he wasn't that good, which is fair enough.
Re: The reason we need a statement from the club regarding Pearson transfer, is this. So we end up with a never ending rebuilding job every 6 months. You cannot run a successful football club like that whether it be loans or short term deals for the long term future of the club it has got to stop and some proper long term signings need to be made so a decent squad can be built that doesn't disintegrate every few months or god knows where we will end up.
Re: The reason we need a statement from the club regarding Pearson transfer, is this. Excellent explanation Jay...........but not one bit of it might be right. Because all of it is conjecture............that's why we need a statement from the club
But it's also a risk signing players on long term contracts, we could have ended up having the likes of willkinson on a 3 year deal, it's impossible to know what player is going to be successful,
