Where do you think those "chemicals" come from; the earth, it's made of chemicals, as are you as is me. You pump chemicals into the earth every time you flush the 5hitter, or drive to the shops.
The point is it won't be ours, whether it's under our house or next doors. You are deluded if you think this will ultimately be for the common good of all. The limitations of Green technology will remain just that so long as this Govt. pulls the funding/subsidising of solar energy.
Competition becomes less and less as rival companies take over each other. So much owned by so few can only lead to misery for most.
Why should this or any govt subsidise solar energy ? If its so good it should be able to support itself.
It has been doing so until recently. Ultimately the development of this reusable energy will benefit all. Unlike the 'Dash for gas'in the 80s sponsored by successive Tory govts, ensuring coal wasn't competing on a level playing field.
As an ex oil company engineer, may I inform you that fracking or water injection has been carried out in the UK at BP sites of Wytch Farm and Welton. There has been no reports of water contamination or earthquakes reported in Dorset or Lincolnshire. The US word, fracking, is one that engenders threat, whilst the more passive term of water injection arouses no fear.
I'm not sure I can differenciate between fracking and coal mining in terms of damage to the environment and impact on local people and their lives. I can remember the days of coal and aesthetically I prefer Cortonwood as a supermarket. However we need jobs. Whether the profits go to the wealthy or whoever Barnsley needs quality jobs and proper careers for our kids. I think the employment outlook would be the issue which swung my "vote"
I don't know - if it's none - or even loads of jobs, but imported skill or low skill then I'm against it. If it's loads of local high skilled jobs then I can't object to it.
I’m not pro-mining. I abhor what Thatcher did to the mines because not only were they still viable but they took away well paid jobs without replacing them – and that is more my gripe about it. Fracking produces a small proportion of jobs in relation to what mining produced. http://www.refracktion.com/index.php/myth-busting/myth-2-fracking-and-jobs/ It's another example of the countryside being raped for vast profit to the companies whilst producing minimal well-paid, sustainable jobs.
Ditto on mining - I dont' buy the arguement that coal would provide cheap energy as the price of coal would fluctuate with the market too - but at least it would provide energy security and quality employment So on fracking the only way I would support it is if all the licences were only available to TATA and and redfearns and the like and only for use in S****horpe steal works, forgemasters and the glass works for cheap energy to protect jobs. But that will never happens so I'll sign the petition - what good it will do.
